Katheryn Stratakis

Boardman Katheryn Stratakis 1932-2024 Katheryn "Kay" Stratakis, 91 passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Katheryn was born September 11, 1932 at home in Beaver Falls, PA to John and Bessie Soter (Rigas). They moved to Youngstown when she was 3 and after World War II they moved to the South Side of Youngstown. She attended Cleveland Elementary school, Princeton Junior High School and South High School graduating in January 1951 the last January class. A year later she attended Youngstown University in 1956 and graduated with an elementary teaching degree. She taught in the Youngstown School system for 35 years. After retirement, she kept busy volunteering with the Northside Hospital taking care of the sick and newborn babies. Mom loved spending time with her friends and family. She loved reading murder mysteries and creating amazing needlework. In 1958, Katheryn married George Stratakis until his death in 1970. She leaves behind her daughters Marcella Maria Stratakis and Stephanie Ann Minogue (Stratakis) whom she loved dearly. She also leaves two beloved grandchildren Shaun Brendan Minogue and Valerie Kathryne Ice whom she cherished and loved dearly. She was a loyal and devoted member of St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox church. She loved teaching Sunday school and working tirelessly at the church with her friends. She leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. William Soter of Palm Beach Florida, nieces' Valerie Vick, Kathy Fitzgerald and John Soter (Stephanie). The family would like to thank Chris Felleti for helping Mom out during this trying time. The doctors and nurses and everyone at Mercy Health in Boardman for their caring, courage and devotion they showed our mother and grandmother. The family also extends thanks and gratitude to the Hospice of the Valley nurses, volunteers, Chaplain and assistants. They were amazing. Services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church. There will be a viewing at 10:00am and the service will begin at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please send any contributions to St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church. Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home in Youngstown is handling all the arrangements for this family.
