YOUNGSTOWN Lorretta E. Darvanan April 25, 1931 – October 13, 2025 Lorretta Darvanan, a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on October 13, 2025. Born on April 25, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio, Lorretta was the daughter of Stephen and Ann Olsavsky. She graduated from Ursuline High School in 1949 and went on to study music at Kent State University. A lifelong member of Holy Name Church in Youngstown, now part of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, her strong faith guided her throughout her life. Lorretta met the love of her life while working at City Hall, Attorney Avetis Darvanan. They were married on June 2, 1956, and shared more than 48 wonderful years together until his passing in 2004. The center of her world was her family, and she dedicated her life to raising her children. Having grown up as an only child, Lorretta always dreamed of having a big family to love-and she fulfilled that dream beautifully. She is survived by her children: Steven Darvanan of Youngstown; Linda McNally of Canfield; Laura (Kenny) Beggrow of Columbus; and Lisa (Robert) Korandovich of Columbus. The greatest joy of her life was being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Kerry (Jim) Cordle, Jamie (Shelby) McNally, Collin Korandovich, and Grace Korandovich, all residing in the Columbus area, as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Hunter and Harrison Cordle, and a soon-to-arrive great-grandchild, expected by Jamie and Shelby McNally. Lorretta deeply loved her community and held a special affection for Mill Creek Park, where her husband proudly served as a Park Commissioner from 1979 to 1998. She found joy in life's simple pleasures-sharing time with family and friends, taking peaceful drives through the park, and enjoying breakfast at Bob Evans in Boardman with her son, where the wonderful staff knew her order by heart. In her earlier years, she also delighted in traveling abroad, immersing herself in new places and cultures. Known for her warmth, kindness, and gift for making everyone feel welcome, Lorretta never met a stranger. She remained active and curious, always interested in the world around her-an avid reader and talented pianist. She loved challenging herself with the daily New York Times crossword and word search puzzles and cherished visits to Columbus to celebrate family milestones and create lasting memories. Proud of her Slovak and Ukrainian heritage, Lorretta found joy in cooking traditional family favorites like haluski, halupki, and pirohy, sharing her culture and love through food. Private arrangements are being handled by Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home. Per Lorretta's request, there will be no calling hours. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. George Ellis Jr. and his compassionate staff for their exceptional care and kindness.
