Nicholas Carano Obituary

Nicholas J. Carano, age 84, of Girard, formerly of Hubbard passed away on Wednesday August 27, 2025. Nicholas was born June 10, 1941 in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Nicholas A. & Margaret M. Tranick Carano. He was a 1959 graduate of Ursuline High School and later graduated from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Nick was the proud owner and operator for 50 years at Carano's United Family Food in Hubbard, which later became Valu King and then an IGA store. After his retirement he worked at Macali's Giant Eagle in Niles for 10 years. He also was a substitute custodian at Niles City Schools. He enjoyed running, bicycling, scuba diving, sky diving, and was an instrument rated pilot. Nick was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Girard, Knights of Columbus, and a veteran of the United States Navy. Nick was known as the "Bird Man", over the last 26 years he shared his home with Ouija pronounced (Wee Gee) an Umbrella-Crested Cockatoo, who was loved by everyone, and especially enjoyed going on travels with Nick. He was a volunteer and made many visits with his Cockatoo to area nursing homes in Trumbull and Mahoning County. His wife the former Nancy J. McFall whom he married August 6, 1988 passed away May 2, 2018. Nick will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family; his children Nicholas J. Carano Jr. of Campbell, Ohio; Michael (Pattie) Carano of Lordstown, Ohio; and step-children Ronald (Mary) Fiedler of Hubbard, Ohio; Donald (Kelly) Fiedler of Girard, Ohio; Ellsworth Fiedler of Girard, Ohio; Eleanor Fiedler of Girard, Ohio; and Edward Fiedler (Tonia Fox) of Hubbard, Ohio; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and son David Carano. There will be services held at 12 Noon on Wednesday September 3, 2025 with calling hours prior to the service from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home. Nick will be laid to rest next to his wife at Hubbard Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Nick's memory to Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley P.O. Box 298 Youngstown, Ohio 44501.
