Patricia Burgoon Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of Patricia Ann "Patte" Burgoon, age 91, of Youngstown, OH, on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Patricia Ann Burgoon (Oberer) was born in Columbus, OH, on April 26, 1934, to Romanus Anthony and Mable (Jenkins) Burgoon.
Patte lived a full life, and merely wanted it to be said that, during this time, she "lived".
Patte inspired others with her love of literature, learning, and most of all… music. She was a piano teacher during her stay-at-home years and taught music theory to all of her children. She was a religious "seeker" and made friends easily. Patte travelled throughout the United States and especially loved the southwest serenity of New Mexico. Additionally, Patte got a book published, about life and times at Buckeye Lake, Ohio, in the 1940s & 1950s. It's "an historical fiction" piece, a coming-of-age story, at the setting in "America's Playground".
In her many years, she lived in Columbus, Cleveland, Detroit, Seattle, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Alamogordo. She attended San Diego State University in her brief 7 years in southern California, earning both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees there.
Patte was the mother of seven children. She is survived by Lisa J. (Richard) Erb, Karl R. Oberer, John E. (Marjorie) Oberer, Dr. Reid T. W. Oberer, Kristin Grace, and Regina L. (Kevin) Ryan; and sister, Joan Forkin, of Aurora, OH. Patte (Nana) is also survived by grandchildren Jacob Erb, Caleb Erb, Marin (Josh) Tobin, Kenneth "KJ" (Briana) Ryan, Levi Ryan, Jaclyn McGraw, Dr. Natalie Oberer, Nathan Oberer, Grace Bucklew, and Claire Bucklew; and great-grandchildren Kaius Tobin and Reyna Tobin.
Besides her parents, Patte was preceded in death by her son, Paul A. Oberer (2011); brother, Eugene Walter Marchant; sister-in-law, Betty Marchant; and brother-in-law, John Forkin.
A private "Celebration of Life" event is planned for Patte in a remote location. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree or daisies and feed the birds in her honor.
