Patricia McGowan Obituary

Patricia (Trish) of Poland, Ohio passed away at Mercy Health of Boardman on July 8th, 2024, at the age of 72. John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" could be heard in the background. It helps to define the comfort she brought to the family that surrounded her in her final moments. Trish was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on September 24, 1951, to Giovanni and Lucille (Malley) Marchio. Her father instilled a love of baseball that she carried throughout her lifetime. Her vast Italian family had instilled in her a passion for making Italian meals. Trish graduated from West Virginia University in 1974 with a degree in social work after attending Notre Dame High School in 1969. Despite residing in Ohio, she always thought of West Virginia as her home. Trish married Brian McGowan in 1981, and had 3 wonderful children, which she considered the greatest gifts of their union, and had a special bond with each of her children. Her first-born Benjamin married his wife Melissa in 2017 and share a daughter Mallory McGowan who currently resides in Poland, Ohio. Following Mallory's birth, Trish was referred to as Nunnie by the family. Trish enjoyed spending time watching football together, playing cards, and babysitting her beloved Mal Mal whenever she could. When the McGowan family got together, they enjoyed wonderful meals, lots of love, and laughter. Trish's eldest daughter Cassidy Ward married Donovan, and share children Ava and Asher Ward, who currently reside in Poland, referred to her as Pinky. Pinky loved the holidays. She would stink up the kitchen with calamari and she always cooked the seven fish of Christmas. Thanksgiving was marked by the best turkey and the process was held secret until just recently. The Ward household was filled with card games, food, and laughter by Trish. Youngest daughter Leah, and boyfriend Paris, called her Ma. The three of them lived together in Poland, Ohio. Sharing these last, special years at Ma's side was marked by dancing in the kitchen. Coffee on the patio allowed Trish to share with Leah wisdom and reminiscence about all that life taught her. The connection to her will always be felt in that family home. Trish loved to travel. Cancun was her favorite, but her free-spirited soul gave her a love for all adventures. The adventures her loved ones remember most were wildly crafted stories. She had a way of always keeping you guessing. Trish will always be remembered for her selfless heart and inclusive nature. She considered all of her children's friends' family. She was always up for wine tastings, cabin trips, and family gatherings. She made karaoke memories that will echo in the hearts of friends forever. Trish overcame many health obstacles. Having survived three comas, she will be remembered by her family as a resilient woman. Her family could not have asked for a more loving mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly. Trish's memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Patricia was preceded in death by her Father Giovanni Marchio, Mother Lucille Marchio, and her brothers William and John Jr. Marchio. She joins many beloved family members as she enters eternal rest. Trish did not want a funeral and those wishes will be honored by her family. A celebration of life with family and friends will be held in the near future.
