Richard Shehadi Obituary
YOUNGSTOWN - Richard Anthony Shehadi, 69, peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
Richard was born September 17, 1954, in Washington D.C. a son of the late Lawrence and Yvette Shehadi.
He was a graduate of Bladensburg High School, class of 1971 and worked in information technology at various places in the Washington, D.C. region, including the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and Prince George's County Hospital.
While working in Washington D.C., Richard met his wife, Emily Timariu, whom he married October 7, 1978. The couple resided in the Washington D.C. area for many years with their young family before relocating to the Youngstown area in 1997 so Emily could be closer to her family.
Even in the face of life's challenges, Richard was always known for his cheerful spirit, warm humor, and genuine kindness. He had a love of learning and curiosity that he passed on to his children. Richard could often be found playing a game of chess, reading a book, or studying the Bible. He also found joy in music, singing both classic songs and church hymns, often with a sense of humor that endeared him to those around him. Richard was deeply devoted to his family, regularly staying in touch with his siblings and children. He was known for conducting "lightning rounds," where he would check in on everyone by phone, ensuring that he stayed connected with those he loved.
A devout Orthodox Christian, Richard was deeply involved in his faith. He was a member and volunteer at Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church in Youngstown and more recently attended St. Mark Orthodox Church in Liberty Township. One of his great joys was visiting the Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration in Ellwood City, Pa., where his daughter, Sister Christine, embraced her calling as a nun.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Angela and Sister Christine; his sons, Eric and Kyle; his sisters, Marielle, Diane, and Theresa; his brothers, Paul and John; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 43 years, Emily, who passed away April 20, 2022.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2024, at St. Mark Orthodox Church 3560 Logan Way, Youngstown, OH 44505 where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Colin Barker officiating.
Interment will follow at Girard Liberty Union Cemetery where Richard will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Emily.
In lieu of flowers, Richard's family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Orthodox Monastery of the Transfiguration, 321 Monastery Lane, Ellwood City, PA, 16117.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Austintown Healthcare Center for their kindness and compassionate care given to Richard during his time there.
