Richard W. Thomas Jr.

YOUNGSTOWN - Richard W. "Ric" Thomas Jr., 73, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Sept. 9, 2025, at Hospice House, with his family by his side. Ric was born Jan. 6, 1952, in Youngstown, the son of the late Richard W. Thomas and Ruth Clarkson Thomas. Though his military career took him to many places around the world, Youngstown was always the place he proudly called home. A graduate of Wilson High School, Ric served in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 until his retirement in 1994, working faithfully as a member of the military police. He carried with him a deep sense of duty, loyalty and honor that shaped his life and the lives of those around him. After his military service, Ric began a second career with Cox Enterprises – Manheim Auto Auctions, a nationwide company, where he worked until retiring in 2008. Ric enjoyed watching sports and cheered passionately for his beloved Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers and Browns, as well as the Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, who brought him his greatest joy. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sherri Kuhnwald Thomas, whom he married July 15, 2000; his six children, Aprile-Love (Donny) Thomas-Ward of Elko, Nev., Ricky (Lulu) Thomas III of Girard, Jodi (John) Weldy of Wonewoc, Wis., Katy (Darren) Pangburn of Baraboo, Wis., Brian Thomas of Las Vegas, Nev., and Kadie Thomas of Girard; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, with one more expected; his sister, Sharryn (Alan) Jones of Brookfield; and many extended family members. In addition to his parents, Ric was preceded in death by his son, Don Pangburn; his grandson, Kayo Melton; and his sister, Judy Heaven. Family and friends are invited to gather at Sherri's home Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m. to visit, share stories and offer condolences.
