Rosemarie Filips Obituary
Struthers-Rosemarie Filips, 96, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
Rosemarie was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Youngstown, the daughter of Umberto and Theresa Menali Iannazone.
At the age of seven, she started taking piano lessons, and by ten years old was studying with Dr. Henry Stearns, the head of the music department at Youngstown College.
After graduating from East High School, she attended Youngstown College and earned a Bachelor of Music degree and was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority.
She was employed in the purchasing department of Lordstown Ordinance Depot for several years, then taught piano at Strauss Music Center, as well as privately at her home.
Rosemarie was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.
She enjoyed reading, dining out, going to casinos, watching soap operas, and taking care of her late daughter's kitty cats, Otto, Fletcher, Niles, and Jake.
Rosemarie leaves behind to cherish her memory, two nieces, Carol (Stuart) Hitchcock of North Jackson and Deb (Ken) Koehler of Champion; and three nephews, Richard (Brenda) Russo of Cortland, Michael (Patta) Baumstark of Texas, and Joey Filip of Massachusetts.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Rosemarie's caregiver, Charlene Chapman.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Filips; daughter, Lori Ann Filips; sister and brother-in-law, Elvera and Samuel Russo; brother and sister-in-law, Alphonso and Margaret Iannazone; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Erma and Michael Baumstark; brother-in-law Joseph Filip; two nieces, Diane Russo and Dolores Tornare; and nephew Timothy Filip.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests monetary donation be made in Rosemarie's name to the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project, 909 Martin Luther King Blvd, Warren, Ohio 44485.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue, Boardman.
