Vernon Scott Obituary

Vernon F. Scott Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025. Born on November 19, 1963, in Sharon, PA, to the union of Streater E. and Bessie Mae (Sellers) Scott, Vernon made his home in Farrell, where he became a source of warmth and comfort for those around him. Vernon's journey was marked by a spirit of resilience and dedication. He served honorably in the United States Army, with deployments that took him across Germany and Italy. It was these experiences which cultivated his profound appreciation for diverse cuisines that would later shape his career. After earning his culinary degree in 2002, he channeled his passion for hospitality into a lifelong commitment as a chef at Nugent's Long-Term Care, where patrons approvingly enjoyed his culinary creations. A proud graduate of Farrell Area High School, Vernon took the opportunity to nurture young lives through extended learning, serving as a Playground Instructor with the Mercer County Housing Authority and supporting the local community by working as a playground aid at just 16 years old. Throughout his life, he was well-known for his incredible work ethic and the love he poured into every dish, each seasoned with a dash of his infectious joy. Beyond his professional endeavors, Vernon cherished the simpler pleasures of life-casting a line while fishing, showing unwavering support for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, and creating joyful memories with his grandson, Malachi Owens, with whom he shared a beautiful connection that illuminated their lives. Vernon also leaves cherished memories with his loving children: Vernon F. Scott Jr., Ashley C. Scott, Ruthie Murray, and Deamarje' Bender, along with his bonus children Chazlin Cromartie, Charlie Cromartie, Angela Little and Robert Trudo, all of whom carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength. Precious memories and moments will be shared by his siblings Paula Scott Hampton of Sumter, SC, Peggy Scott-Styles of Farrell, Streater Scott, Jr. of Farrell, Geraldine Smith of Cleveland and Carrie Scott of Sharon PA and a host of family and friends. As Vernon crossed the celestial sands into eternity, he was reunited with his parents; siblings Elmore Scott, Rev. Letitia "Jice" D. Scott-Banks, Horace Wilson, and Angela Green, each who preceded him in death. In celebrating Vernon F. Scott Sr., we reflect on a life filled with love, service, and laughter. His legacy of culinary artistry, community spirit, and deep familial bonds will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew him. Vernon's life and legacy will be celebrated on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the New Hope Baptist Church, 370 Spruce Street, Sharon. He will be in repose, alongside his sister Rev. Letitia "Jice" D. Scott-Banks., from 9:00 AM- 11:00 AM. There will be dedicated time for expressions and reflections during the visitation hours. The funeral services, with military honors, will begin at 11:00 with Pastor Clevon Dukes officiating and Superintendent Tyrone T. Steals as the celebrant. There will be a committal ceremony prior to his interment in the comforting meadows of the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies which he will rest among the noble men and women who have valiantly served our country. At this time of intimate need and personal loss, the family of Vernon F. Scott Sr. elected to entrust the Ministry of Comfort & Care, along with Transitional After-Care Arrangements to the J. E. Washington Funeral Services, 1059 Hamilton Ave, Farrell, PA 724.983.1523
