David Rasmussen Obituary

David Rasmussen

27 July, 1940 -

13 May, 2022

During his days growing up in Jacksonville, Dave was well known for his adventures. Whether it was locking the sheriff in his own jail cell or blowing up the well in town that is now railed off, or other mischievous moments (often with his lifetime best friend Larry Petersen), Dave loved to live life.

With life's canvas as his backdrop of learning (he barely graduated from Highschool) David Eugene Rasmussen got more out of life than seems possible. He would become the wisest and strongest man we ever would know. A man known for his integrity and compassion.

Dave specialized and was sponsored in Motocross, was one of the first pilots for Mercy flights (with friend George Mulligan), an instructor for flying, taught scuba diving with his dear friend Art Pollard of race car fame, and traveled the globe on many special excursions. He was a nationally ranked racquetball player and also enjoyed his time in golf. He and his son Juan loved fishing so much that they hit most every spot in the area and then some. Another unique layer of his life was that he is the only known airline employee for any airline that experienced every possible position during his years at United Airlines, from cook, to baggage handler to charters (Lakers, Dodgers, Rams), to pilot, to IT management to ticketing, etc. His love for music led to a home recording studio that fashions countless instruments from all over the world all of which he played.

He was married to Glena Rasmussen (until her passing in 2013) for 55 years and they raised four children, Kelly (Teresa), Trina (Don), Holly and Juan (Jessica) all who call him their hero and best of friends. Juan came to our family when Dave was a mentor for the Youth for Christ ministry. After becoming like a father to Juan, Dave officially became his father after adoption, something that he was most thankful for. His grandchildren also cherish Dave: Andrew, Mikyl and Aubree (Kelly and Cindi), Gabriella (Trina and Don) and Adriel and Grayson (Juan and Jessica) and will be forever influenced by his love and grace.

Four years ago he and Sandy (Doe) married and began a very special 2nd chapter in his life. They shared the same interests of traveling the world, collecting cars and the car shows that accompanied, as well as their time in Gold Canyon AZ during the winters. He gained two more granddaughters in Riley (Mariah) and Peyton (Tiffany and Travis) who love Dave very much. The relationships that are rich to him are abundant and his passions are only surpassed by the people he met and shared time with.

There are too many achievements to mention here. It was his experience of life that added to his way of "special". His most recent experience was his lifetime desire to get Baptized. Matt Sweeney and close family were there on this best-of-life moment as he declared his love for Jesus Christ. We are all grateful to have been there and it was evident that his life was complete and fulfilled.

We are thankful for Providence Hospice for their part in the loving process that brought Dave home. The family would like to invite family and friends in a celebration of life at Mountain Fellowship on June 18th, 2022 at 11am. Matt Sweeney will preside.

David was a great friend and fellow automobile collector for much of his life. He was a fun person to be around and always loved to talk about cars, his racing career or his car collection, He will be missed by many.

My dad, Jim Carrier and Dave were very good friends. I grew up knowing Dave and his family way back in the 1960's. Dave was such a wonderful man. He will be missed.

Can some please post the address to Mountain Fellowship, or a phone number, for those of us from out of town?

Thank you and God bless.
