Lloyd Abrams Obituary
Lloyd George Abrams
Lloyd George Abrams, 92, of Medford, passed away peacefully at the Rogue Valley Manor Health Center, on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. Lloyd maintained a good attitude this past year despite the loss of his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Marytine (Tina) Abrams, on October 20, 2006, the loss of his eyesight from macular degeneration, the loss of his memory, and finally the loss of his mobility. It was a tough year and through it all, Lloyd maintained a loving attitude, a strong faith in God, and a song in his heart. While he was in the Health Center, he sang nearly every day to eveyone's delight. A memorial service will be held on October 25, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly, Medford.
Lloyd was born on November 15, 1914, in Uniontown, Wash., the middle of five children of Clifford and Ocie Abrams. Lloyd was born into a family of singers and this love of song and music stayed with him until his last day on earth when we played the Abrams trio CD for him, and squeezed our hand to let us know he heard. He loved to wake the familiy with Oh What a Beautiful Morning, to Barber Shop Quartets, to Church Choirs, to family sing-alongs. Lloyd's love of music and song carries on in his 4 children. For his 90th birthday, his son, Gerry, arranged for the family to gather at a Medford recording studio, and the next generation recorded the family songs for a new CD. This CD was played often and always made him smile and sing along. When he wasn't working or singing, Lloyd loved the outdoors, on the lake fishing, in the wheat fields and forests hiking and hunting, and reveling in the glory of nature. Oh yes, and Lloyd did love to play golf. He played even after he lost his eyesight, with his son lining up the shot and telling him the yardage. He had seven holes-in-one over his many years of playing golf.
Lloyd graduated from Forest Grove Union High School in 1932, and from Oregon Normal School (Western Oregon University at Monmouth) in 1935, where he earned a teaching certificate. His first teaching job was in Clatskanie, Ore., where he met and then married the love of his life, Marytine Abrams, on June 27, 1937. Shortly after they married, he joined his brother, father, and uncles, working for Chevron/Standard Oil until his retirment at 62. Lloyd was a loving husband, a good father and provider, and a friend to many. Lloyd and Tina retired to Jacksonville in 1976, where he was active in the Presbyterian Church, the Masons (he was a 32 degree Mason and Shriner), and the barber shop chorus where he continued to make friends and sing his songs.
Lloyd is survived by his sister, Eileen Beeson; and his four children, L. George (Jan) Abrams, Gail (Allan) Munnecke, James (Sue) Abrams, Gerald (Jory) Abrams; and his grandchildren, Kris (Dave) Harper, Mark (Alisa) Cording-Abrams, David (Sammantha) Munnecke, Scott Munnecke, Danielle Abrams, and Anna Abrams. He also has three great-grandchildren, Andrew (A.J.) Harper, Caleena Harper, Katherine Munnecke, and a fourth one expected in November. He leaves behind many old and new friends in Medford, and all around the country.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital, 3101 SW Jackson Park Rd., Portland, OR 97239 503-221-3466.
