Michael Fischer Obituary

Michael J. Fischer

01/14/1950 - 09/30/2022

Michael J. Fischer passed away September 30, 2022 in Medford, Oregon. Mike was born January 14, 1950, to Edward and Violet Fischer in Scotland, South Dakota. He grew up in Roanoke, Illinois with brothers Jeff and Jay and sisters Gwen and Cheryl. He played basketball for Eureka College and graduated in 1972.

Mike moved to Orange County, CA in 1979 where his new life began when he met his wife, Carol Diers. They married in 1982. On October 30th they would have celebrated 40 years of marriage. Opportunity led them to relocate to Medford, OR in 1984. Mike soon fell in love with the Rogue Valley, its rivers, and its people. He owned and operated a used car business called Park, Show & Sell until 2003 when the City of Medford purchased the lot to make way for a new library. He was proud to be the President of the Oregon Independent Auto Dealers Association. Mike and Carol continued the American dream when their first son Eric was born in 1985. They were blessed again with the birth of their second son Gregory in 1988. The boys continued as the central joy of Mike's life. He enjoyed teaching them to golf, taking them hunting and fishing, and was an ever-present fixture on the sidelines of all their extracurricular activities.

A new generation of Fischer's was born in 2021. Granddaughter, and new greatest love, Hadley was born to son Eric, and wife Amanda. Four generations of Fischers recently took a road trip to Illinois to showcase the new baby to Mike's 94-year-old mother.

A sports enthusiast, Mike was the President of the Medford Linebackers Association, played golf at the Rogue Valley Country Club, and played basketball regularly until his passing. Most importantly, Mike will be remembered for his ever-present smile, positive attitude and his dedication to his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be sent to the South Medford Athletic Program. (Attn: Athletic Director, 1551 Cunningham Ave, Medford OR 97501 REF: Memory of Mike Fischer.)

A Celebration of Mike's life is being planned for January 14th, 2023 marking his 73rd birthday.

So sad to hear. I remember living on Prescott court across
The street from their red house with a full brick wall around their garage.
He had a great smile and brought light to any situation. I remember a time when the Fischer family joined us at Diamond Lake at my family´s cabin.
There was an old cranky geezer who owned a cabin across from ours, got super mad at how loud me my brother and sisters and their kids were. The man was swearing at my dad. My dad said to the man I don´t appreciate you cussing in front of my kids. Then Mike went on to say " would you like a beer?" The man said that would be great. The man completely mellowed out and talked with us for quite a while. I won´t ever forget that story. Mike was always able to diffuse situations.
I remember the time his basketball team came and invited my dad to play at the colosseum and got to see a Blazer game. Matt and I got to shoot hoops on the court. That was a highlight of my life. After their basketball game we stayed and watched Blazers play the Houston Rockets and snapped their 15 game winning streak with a 106-98 overtime win. The reason I bring that up is because I remember that time with Mike so well.

The Larson family will miss you and may the Lord bring comfort to the Fischer family.

Carol, Eric, and Gregory,

We were so sorry to hear you lost Mike. Mike was the sort of person that you always enjoyed running into. As mentioned, he always had a smile and you came away feeling better for seeing him. In all the years we´ve known him, we never heard him say anything negative which is an incredibly special quality. We are better to have known him.
