Sean Duffie Obituary

Sean Patrick Duffie
October 30, 1968 to January 17, 2008

On Thursday, January 17, 2008, after a wonderful morning with his family, Sean dropped his daughter, Katie, off at school. He was on his way to South Beach in Crescent City, Calif., to surf with a friend. That afternoon, after riding the best wave of the day, Sean died doing what he loved to do.

Born in San Diego, Calif., to Sherryl and Patrick Duffie, and moving to Hawaii when he was two, Sean fell in love with the water, and surfing. "He was born in the water," his friend said Friday. He spent his high school years in Eagle Point before moving back to Hawaii. Sean met his wife Wendy in 1991, and they were married in 1993. They settled in Phoenix, where he started his business, Greco Tile Co.

Family was what mattered most to Sean. He would have considered his happy marriage of almost 15 years to Wendy, and his two children, Katie (10) and Max (6) to be his greatest accomplishments. He loved his family and he shared his love of music, travel, sports and the outdoors with them.

Sean is survived by his loving wife, Wendy (Webb) Duffie; daughter, Katie; and son, Max; mother, Sherryl Carlson, of Medford; father Patrick Duffie (Jennifer), of Guam; stepfather, Scott Carlson (Lori) of Medford; grandmother, Delores Nielson, of San Diego, Calif.; brothers, Wynd Carlson, of Shady Cove, and Ryan Carlson, of Hawaii; sister Tatiana Duffie, of Hawaii; step-brother, John and step-sister Roxanne of Guam; parents-in-law, David and Rozella Webb, of Sedgwick, Maine; sister-in-law; Susan Webb (Dan Howe) of Portland; brother-in-law, Ben Webb (Carol) of Sedgwick, Maine; nieces, Sarah and Hannah; nephew, Christian; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Duffie; and his grandmother, Ann Rotar.

A memorial service will be held at Ashland Christian Fellowship on Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Sean will be cremated and his ashes scattered in Maui later this year.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of the family to the Sean Duffie Memorial Fund, Washington Mutual bank, 81 E. Stewart Ave., Medford, OR 97501. The Duffie family would like to thank all the friends, family and members of the community who have given them their love and support during this difficult time.

At the great work site the Master tile setter has been lovingly, artisticly, beautifully at work creating 'The Masterpiece'. With the use of wonderful materials in many colors, shapes and sizes. Of subtle texture and bold line has He laid down such beauty. In his work he knows the importance of each and every piece, how one is preceded by another giving support and definition. And in turn how the subsequent pieces are built upon from there. At this time may He step back and through us be please with a partiular piece of this great mosaic, 'he' that we have had the pleasure, the honor to know as Sean Duffie!!!
My warmest condolences to the family and friends whom I share in grieving and in love of our friend.
