Asa York Obituary

PORTLAND - Asa David Alexander York, 31 of Portland, Maine and Denver, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly and joined his brother Dave on September 27th. Asa was born on January 19, 1987. He attended Messalonskee High School and was active in basketball. He then went on to college and graduated from Southern Maine Community College for business management.

The life Asa lived was always unexpected. He had a traveling soul and always dreamed big. Nothing was ever to far out of his reach. Everywhere he went, he would always leave a huge impact on the people he came in contact with. He loved making people laugh and was quite the jokester. He made so many amazing friends along the way.

Asa had a passion for photography and found beauty in everything. He worked as a server and bartender at many restaurants in the Waterville and Portland Area and enjoyed his time doing it.

Lover of Animals, Asa rescued a yellow lab who he named Jake. Although Jake suffered from separation anxiety, Asa embraced Jake and they ended up being just what the other needed. Jake would travel with Asa to multiple states to rescue stray dogs and take them to safety. He also volunteered at animal sanctuary's and eventually moved to Denver Colorado, a place that ment so much to him.

After moving to Denver in August of this year, he finally got the chance to work with animals at a Veterinary Hospital. Something he considered his dream job. He was so excited for this new adventure. Before he left us, he rescued another dog, an 8 month old yellow lab mix and named her Arizona, the state he had found her in.

Our family will now take care of Jake and Arizona. Asa was loved by so many and all of us will miss him deeply. Always embrace the random and hold your loved ones tight.

Asa leaves behind his parents, Denise Dutil of Waterville and Lisa Foster of Oakland. Two older sisters, Samantha Moody and her husband, Nick of Pittston, Nicole Murphy of Meriden, CT., and one younger brother, Jade Dutil of Waterville. Asa was predeceased by his other younger brother, David Dutil Jr. He also leaves behind four nieces, Kaydence and Kendall Moody of Pittston, Alyssa Cusimano and Madison Bruzy of Meriden, CT., one nephew, Michael Murphy also of Merdien CT., and one great nephew, Jayce. Also numerous cousins, Aunts and Uncles.

We will hold a celebration of Asa's life on October 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Rising Tide Brewing Company, 103 Fox Street in Portland.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please donate to any humane society or animal sanctuary of your choosing. Asa would have saved all the animals if he could and I know this is what he would have wanted.
