VEAZIE & STARKS - Benjamin Hilton passed away on Dec. 13, 2016 at Eastern Maine Medical Center after suffering a severe cardiac event at home in Veazie a few days earlier.
Ben was born the first child of Vernard C. and Edith May (Fowler) Hilton on Oct. 12, 1949, and grew up on the old family farm in Starks. He went to grade school in Starks, graduated from Madison High School, class of 1968, and went to New Hampshire College where he studied accounting. He thereafter enlisted in the US Air Force during the Vietnam era, and rose to Sergeant. Following his service, he worked for a number of different companies doing bookkeeping and accountancy work and most recently had worked in and around EMMC itself. His present employment was with Securitas in Bangor.
He married the love of his life, the former Marilyn Braley of Dixmont, with whom he had two sons: Nicholas and Timothy. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marilyn; by their son Nicholas with wife Tammy and grandson Dylan all of Arundel; by their son Timothy with his significant other Heather Dyer and grandsons Thomas and Liam all of Ellsworth; by his brother Ernest and wife Gwen of Starks; by a sister Sylvia Hilton of Jackman; by Marilyn's sister Donna and husband Jim Ross of Dixmont; by brother-in-law Duane Mahon of China, and by the following nieces and nephews, Kelsey Hilton of Gray Maine, Emily Hilton of Washington DC, Missy Feener, Jason Ross of Dixmont.
Ben was a quiet, friendly fellow known for his steadiness. He worked well with others and was a credit to himself and those with whom he worked.
Ben loved airplanes and anything to do with them. He like concerts, feeding the birds, and he especially loved spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Eastern Maine Medical Center, and particularly the CCU for their thoughtful assistance throughout this emotionally stressful period.
A graveside service will be held at the family lot in Dixmont in the spring, as well as a memorial gathering of friends and family to take place at the family farm in Starks. There will be further announcements as to both.
