WATERVILLE - Carl Philip Cote, 91, of Waterville, formerly of Fairfield, died in Augusta on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, with family at his side. He was born on June 25, 1926, in Waterville, one of nine children of Stella (Proulx) and Onesime Cote.
Shortly after graduating from Waterville High School in 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy and served as an electrician's mate in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged as a petty officer third class, and was a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW.
Upon returning to Waterville, he worked at Hathaway Shirts for 10 years. He then worked for the Fairfield Post Office before transferring to the Waterville Post Office, and retired in 1986. He was active in the Catholic Church and served on the parish council, a eucharistic minister and any number of other roles when needed.
Carl married Ruth Cuthbertson Ferland in 1978, and he was always proud of his four children and five stepchildren. He greatly enjoyed family time and reunions at the family camp in Belgrade.
Carl is survived by his children: Thomas Cote, Angela Cote, Emily McDonald (Charles), and Beth Ferland (Peter); his stepchildren: Elizabeth Ferland, Virginia Allen (James), Sarah Cunningham (Lloyd), Peter Ferland (Beth), and Paul Ferland (Sherry); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; his brother, Everett Cote; his sister, Dorothy Bernier; as well as a large extended family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Ruth; his grandsons, Nathan Davis and Joshua Moss; three sisters and three brothers.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Lakewood Continuing Care and the staff of Three West at MaineGeneral Medical Center for their compassion in caring for Carl and his family.

I am so sorry to hear the sad news of Carl's passing. He and Ruth were the best neighbors anyone could want, and I will always remember Carl's laugh and helping hand. He was generous to a fault and one of life's great gentlemen.

Love,
Jim
