Carlton Cote Obituary
1929 - 2016
AUGUSTA - Carlton R. Cote, 87, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at the Captain Lewis Residence, Farmingdale, following a brief illness. He was born in Augusta on June 21, 1929, the son of the late Alcide and Emily (Nadeau) Cote.
Mr. Cote was a graduate of Cony High School and a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
He was co-owner/operator of the Roseland Restaurant for 30 years. Prior to owning the Roseland Restaurant, he was an insurance agent for Prudential for 13 years.
Carlton was a member of the Augusta Elks Lodge, Abnaki Council #334 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Abnaki Assembly #346 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and was a former member of Natanis Country Club.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman prior to his starting the Roseland Restaurant.
Mr. Cote was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Joyce M. (Raymond) Cote; and three sisters: Carmeline Laverdiere, Genieva Tobin, and Rose Cote.
He is survived by his son, Carl A. Cote and his wife Lynne, of Augusta; his daughter, Elaine C. Hanson and her husband John, of Vassalboro; a brother, Alton Cote and his wife Marlene, of China; six grandchildren: Andrew Gallant, Brian Gallant, Diana Williams and her husband Derek, Peter, and Allison and Elizabeth Cote; a great-granddaughter and the apple of his eye, Sawyer Grace Williams; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in the family lot at St. Mary's Cemetery, Western Ave., Manchester. Arrangements are under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
