Laurie, Bruce and David, I will miss your mom a lot. I used to stop and take her something like chocolates, the favorite of mine, cranberry nut muffins from Tobey's and she always was the same--no complaining. It was wonderful the care and concern you each did to care for your mom. The children and grandchildren who spoke did a fantastic job. So many have sent cards and mentioned what a fine funeral you had. I love you all dearly. Love always, Aunt Elsie

To Laurie, Bruce and David:
Laurie, I am so sad to hear of your loss. To Bruce and David, you guys probably don't remember me. When I lived out that way, you boys were pretty young. I worked with your Dad and with Laurie for New England Tel. Your Mom was a most delightful and knowledgable woman - always gracious with an open mind, a big heart and certainly always happy to welcome anyone into her home.

You kids will certainly miss her deeply but will forever carry her with you in your hearts with many prescious memories and much pride for the woman she was and for what she did for you and for her community.

I pray that God will give you the strength to get through this diffucult time to try to find some comfort in each other and your families.

Sincerely,
Karen

I have known the Ballantyne family for quite some time now, having grown up in the small town of palermo.Especially since my father (Tom Pilsbury)knows anyone and everyone in that small, quaint little town.I came to know the Ballentynes very quickly.I used to bring all kinds of home made food that my dad made to her all the time;weekly, sometimes daily. She was always so happy to see me come through the door with an arm full of food for her.

Carolyn was always such a positive person in our small little town. She always had a smile on her face and always had such great words of encouragement for you, even on the darkest&dreariest of rainy days. She always said that "I remember when you were a little one."And always had funny stories to tell about my father and the rest of my family, that always had a punch line to them, that always made me laugh and smile.

My deepest condolences to the entire family, and all the best of friends there in palermo, and the surrounding areas. So sorry I couldn't be there to pay my respects in person.Just remember that "For the darkest nights there's a bright day."

Please accept my sympathy on the passing of Carolyn. I have only known her for a short time, but I found her a remarkable woman. I got to know her through MOCA. She was very dedicated to MOCA. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

To Laurie and the entire Ballantyne family:
Thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Got your note this AM on Facebook. Thank you. Being out of the loop, we did not know that your mother had been ill. I have known her for over 25 years. Yes, your Dad and I had many chats about Gordon, Sr. and the beagles on Coopers Mills Road, not to mention rabbit hunting with my father, and the late Winfield Edwards. Also recall your mother telling tales of the rope elevator in Nelson Branch. Funny that your homestead was the site of the former Dowe Funeral Home. Take care, and live each day thinking of your parents, now together forever, and enjoy all of the happy memories that will come up. Be well, all.......from the entire Pratt family.

As I reflect on the forty years I have known the Ballantyne family, I remember the years they lived in Readfield, as well as Palermo.
Carolyn had many rare qualities, she was friendly, family oriented, and community savy. Most of all, she was a LADY--a quality so lacking in today's society. My deepest condolences to the family.
She was a dear long time friend and I will join her family and many friends in remembering this lady with a heavy heart.
