Charles Hutchins Obituary

MOSCOW -- Charles E. Hutchins, 70, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Maplecrest Rehabilitation & Living Center in Madison.

He was born Feb. 15, 1939, in Waterville, the son of Oscar and Erma (Clark) Hutchins.

Charlie attended Bingham schools. He served active duty in the Navy from 1956 to 1960 aboard the USS Millageville and aboard the USS Bigelow, a newly commissioned ship. Charlie was proud to have been a plank owner of the new ship. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1960 to 1962. In January 1959, he married Juanita Cates; and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

He was employed by Quimby Veneer Mill in Bingham and later worked in the woods as a chopper, skidder operator, foreman and scaler.

He was a member of Stanley Beane Post 99, American Legion, and a member of the Odd Fellows.

Charlie made many dear friends along life's way, who remained true friends all his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He took great pride in his vegetable gardens, where he would work for hours. He enjoyed reading westerns, playing cards and "having a cold one" on occasion.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Kevin Charles Hutchins; his brother, Stephen Hutchins, and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita (Cates) Hutchins of Moscow; four children, Dianne (Cates) Dawes and her husband, Craig, of Sidney; Gregory Hutchins, Lawrence Hutchins and his fiancee, Eleanor Hinkley, and Jeanette (Hutchins) Roderick and her husband, Dana, all of Moscow; six grandchildren, Christopher Dawes and Matthew Dawes of Sidney; Kevin Hutchins and his companion, Charidy Moulton, of Solon; Thomas Hutchins and companion Alicia Baker, of Bingham; Cari Roderick and Andrew Roderick of Moscow, two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Schinzel and Haylee Hutchins; two sisters, Orlene Beane of Bingham and Lucille McDonald and her husband, Clayton, of Moscow; a special niece, Gloria Collins, who has given so much support during this very difficult time; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Charlie's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Robinson Memorial Cemetery in Moscow, with the Rev. Nathan T. Richards officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to a charity of their choice.

Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., in Bingham. 6970938

Juanita and family,
There are no words to express our sorrow for you and your family. We love you all dearly and are here if you need us. We will always remember Charlie's love of kids and how he always bought our girls a Caromello bar when he saw them. They still remember it too. Those camping days were and still are great memories. God bless you all and we thank God that Charlie is no longer suffering.
Love,
Barry & Tess Laweryson
