Charles Paradis Obituary

Charles (Bill) W. Paradis
1930 - 2016
WINSLOW - Charles (Bill) W. Paradis, 85, of Winslow died unexpectedly at Woodland's Assisted Living on Tuesday evening. He was born in Brunswick on Aug. 24, 1930, the son of the late Charles & Marion Paradis of Bath.
Bill was raised in Arrowsic and Bath, and graduated from Morse High School in 1949. Upon graduating from high school he joined the US Army, served as a Corporal, and was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. It was in Georgia where he married his high school sweetheart Patricia Brann Paradis on Sept. 29, 1950.
Upon returning to Maine, Bill managed the First National Grocery stores in Farmington, and then in Waterville for 20 years; followed by several years as a sales representative for Knott Sheehan & York County Biscuit. In his retirement years, he bar tended part time at the Waterville American Legion.
It was during these years that he enjoyed working the best.
He was a longtime member of the Waterville Elks Lodge 905, the Masonic Temple Lodge in Vassalboro, and a member of the Waterville American Legion.
Bill enjoyed life to it's fullest, had many friends, and was usually the life of any party. He is known for his quick hands during a game of cards and his knack for hosting family reunions, 4th of July parties, or any family and neighborhood gathering. His friendly smile, warm heart, and giving personality touched the lives of anyone he encountered. His family was the light of his day, spring in his step, and the smile in his heart. He will be deeply missed by all.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat Paradis; two sons, Chuck Paradis of Fairfield, John Paradis and his wife, Debbie of Litchfield, two daughters, Patty Paradis and fiancé, Steve Libold of Waterville, and Judy Berard and husband, Jeff of Oakland; ten grandchildren, Chris Berube, Nichole Hoague, Tiffany Winchebach, Justin Paradis, Tarsha Donar, Peter Paradis, Lindsey Troxell, Cameron and Ryan Berard; ten great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hayden, Ethan, Oryanna, Isbella, Charlie, Darby, Adrien, Aiden, Jaxon, and one more on the way; two special granddogs Jesse and JJ. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Alisha Lynne Allen.
A special thank you to Gina Boudreau and Dr. David Preston for their special care during the recent years.
A graveside service and celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
Arrangements are under the care of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. An online guestbook may be signed and condolences may be expressed at

What a great man he was. I had the pleasure of working for Bill during my high school and college years when he was manager at the first national store in Waterville. He was a great boss. He was kind, considerate and caring. My sincere condolences to the family.
