Clara Howard Obituary

1932-2014

SKOWHEGAN - Clara L. Howard, 81, of Skowhegan, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2014 at Woodlawn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Skowhegan with her family by her side.

She was born on June 25, 1932, in Ancram, N.Y., the daughter of Waldo O. Merritt and Mary (Miller) Merritt Simmons.

She spent many years working as a housekeeper in hotels and nursing homes.

She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Skowhegan.

She is survived by seven children, James Barto, of Skowhegan, dear friend Wayne Whelan, of Skowhegan, George Roe, of Illinois, Harry Ostrander, of New York, Jean Ann Howard, of New York, Josephine Ostrander, of New York, and Judy Daniels, of New York; and one sister, Judy Ruzbasan, of Connecticut.

She is predeceased by her husband, William Howard; and a daughter, Barbara Howard.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at East Skowhegan Cemetery in Skowhegan.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Woodlawn Nursing Home, the staff at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home and the staff from hospice.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave,. Skowhegan.
