Everett Cote Obituary

WATERVILLE - Everett Edward Cote, 97, passed away at home, family by his side on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, after a brief illness. He was born on Oct. 11, 1921, the eldest of nine children to Onezime and Stella (Proulx) Cote.

He graduated from Waterville High School in 1939 and started working at a local jewelry store. When he met his future wife, June (Bowers), the sweetest courtship commenced. They wed on April 20, 1942. Married for 68 years, they never missed an opportunity to hold each-others hands until her death, Feb. 23, 2011.

As World War II ensued, Everett enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands as a radio operator. In March 1944, he was able to take a leave and nine months later they welcomed their first born, Alan, as "The New Year Baby" in 1945. Years later, on another yet holiday, Labor Day, David, their second son, arrived.

After the war, he began a career at the Morning Sentinel which would span over 40 years. Once retired, he immediately took up working with his son in the Taxidermy Shop until the age of 95.

Everett was an avid golfer at Natanis Golf Course. He enjoyed fishing at East Grand Lake and took numerous trips to Lake Ontario. He truly loved hunting treks with The Boys up to North East Carry as well as bird hunting in the Rangeley area. He was a lifelong member of Notre Dame Church serving as a Eucharist Minister and frequently assisted the church with other duties. He also served on the Board of Directors at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union. He was a past member of the American Legion helping to compose the Legionnaires monthly newsletter. He was the oldest member of the Le Club Calumet in Augusta.

Always seen with a smile on his face, Everett never missed an opportunity to genuinely cherish the people who were fortunate enough to cross his path.

Predeceasing him were brothers, Carl, Onezime, Francis and Leo, sisters Arlene Graham, Jeanette Doucette, and Lucille Giroux. He leaves behind his two sons, Alan and David; his beloved five grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael, Christopher, Sherie Cote-Hall and Melinda (Cote) Nadeau; 11 great- grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews. Everett is also survived by his sister Dorothy Bernier.; and daughter-in-law Meredith.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses of Home Care & Hospice and Dr. Greg Ferro who made frequent house calls once Everett became home bound.

Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, from 6 - 8 pm, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A celebration of life service will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville, on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 9 a.m. An online guestbook may be signed, condolences and memories shared at www. gallantfh.com
