Everett I. Obituary

AUGUSTA -- Everett A. Moody I, 83, passed away on March 4, 2009, at Togus VA "Patriots Place."

He was born in Whitefield on June 1, 1925, the son of Albert Moody and Lila (Philbrick) Moody.

He attended Whitefield schools and served two years in the Army during World War II. He spent time in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1946 with a Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal of Germany, and European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. He was extremely proud of having served his country. His name is on the Whitefield Roll of Honor, which meant a lot to him. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 887 in Augusta.

In 1948, he married Beverly Heald, of West Gardiner. He worked as an aide taking care of neuropsychiatric patients at the veterans' hospital at Togus for three years. He also worked for John Dyshart, farming and logging in the woods with horses. He later worked for Anna Haskell of Haskell Moving and Storage and Bisson Moving and Storage, where he retired after 16 years of service, always earning safe-driving merit certificates.

He enjoyed puttering around his home and doing yard and lawn care for a chosen few after he retired. He especially loved his dogs, Luke, Did, Butty and Beebee. They were his true companions. He loved to tell stories of himself and his friends and all their "mischief-making fun" in his hometowns of Windsor and Whitefield. He loved the simple, old-fashioned way of life.

Everett was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Lila; and a sister, Claurice.

Everett is survived by his wife, Beverly Moody, of Augusta; his daughter, Betty Funderberk, of Kentucky; his daughter, Diane Cummings and her husband, Bob, of Sidney; his son, Everett Moody II and his wife, Debbie, of Augusta; his daughter, Sandra Philbrick and her husband, Delwin, of Sidney; and his son, Todd Moody, of Augusta; his grandchildren, Heidi and Rodney, of Kentucky, Amy, of Kansas, Kristopher, of Rhode Island, Wendy, of Sidney, Mandy, of Florida, Michael, of Augusta, Eric, Chad and Candace, of Sidney, and Ryan, of Augusta; and his great-grandchildren, Antonio and Alisa, of Kentucky, Brittany, Tanisha, Faith and Nathan, of Kansas, Taylor and Arianna, of Sidney, and Marcus, Katelyn, Chase and Jax, of Florida. Everett is also survived by his sister, Waneta Willey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no visiting hours. A committal service will take place at 1:15 p.m. Friday, March 6, in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Following the committal, family and friends are invited back to the home of Diane and Bob Cummings, 11 Cummings Drive, Sidney.

Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1 Church St., Augusta. www.khrfuneralhomes.com
