1921 - 2015
GARDINER - Fred M. Moody, 94 of Gardiner passed away Dec. 11, 2015 at the Hospice Unit Togus, VA. Fred was born in Pittston June 19, 1921 the son of Francis and Mary Moody
A graduate of Gardiner High School and Bates Business school in Augusta, he was a lumberjack in his younger years. After graduating high school he enlisted in the US Army. After training, he was put in charge of the Liberty boat carry 100 men crew stationed at Bar Harbor. Fred was then shipped to Germany where he served during the Rhine Campaign in World War ll. He was wounded in combat receiving the Purple Heart as well as a Bronze Star, combat infantry badge and first class gunner and rifleman. He was honorably discharged on Sept 30, 1945.
Fred worked at the VA for 30 years retiring in 1976. He handled the military records for veterans.
He was a member of the V.F.W. a life member of the D.A.V. and a member of the American Legion Post 4 Gardiner.
Fred loved farming, camping, traveling, square dancing as well as teasing, listening and telling a good joke. He was a kind and caring man who was always looking to help his family. He would put food on the table for anyone that would come to visit.
His parents; his wife, Pearl J. Moody, two brothers, William and Kenneth Moody.Sr.; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild predeceased him. He is survived by his brother, Robert Moody and wife, Barbara; his five children, Gloria Hanna and her husband, Blaine, Ken Moody and wife, Wilma, Pearl M. Moody and husband, Calvin, Betty Cormier and Linwood Lee Moody and wife, Colleen; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Dec 15, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the service with military honors at the Litchfield Plains Cemetery.
Thanks to all the Doctors and nurses at the patriot Place and hospice care unit at Togus. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Fred will be fondly missed and remembered by all his family and friends. Condolences may be sent to the family thru the funeral home's web site at www.staplesfuneral.com

Grandpa i have so many wonderful memories .u always had a joke to say n gave me my nicknames quarter nickel dime n half dollar.u had kind heart.i always enjoyed all ur war stories.u were hard worker n great dad.raising kids the way a man should.u have gained ur angel wings n now u are with gram n my brother robbie.love u so much.n p.s.i loved all the pies n homemade biscuits during holidays.
