Frederick Blaschke Obituary

WINSLOW - Frederick Martin Blaschke, 81, of Smiley Avenue, Winslow, loved life and lived it to the fullest until he passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Maine General Health Center in Augusta.
Fred was born in Beacon, N.Y., to Anna and Rudolf Blaschke on April 13, 1932. As a boy and throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He graduated from Beacon High School and earned a degree in poultry science at the State University of New York, Delhi. There he met his one and only sweetheart, Evelyn Neumann. On May 15, 1954, they married in Grand Gorge, N.Y. They settled in Branford, Conn., where they had six children; and Fred began his life's work in the poultry industry.
A career move led him to Maine, where Fred discovered endless opportunities to further develop his hunting and fishing skills, including fly-tying and turkey calling. Fred shared his love for the great outdoors with his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening and gathering the family around the piano to sing the old favorites. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, and as an enthusiastic outdoorsman.
Fred was predeceased by his brother Carl, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Tomlins, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y; sister-in-law Pat Blaschke, of Poughkeepsie; his wife, Evelyn "Ev"; their children, Lyn and her husband, Joe Rowden, of Fairfield, Mary and her husband, Gary Freeman, of Palm City, Fla., Rick "Fred" and his wife, Ruth, of Clinton, Laurie and her husband, Forrest Davis, of Sullivan, Gary and his wife, Teri, of Standish, Mark and his wife, Mary, of Sidney; and grandchildren Amanda, Sage, Dakota, Annalise, Mark and Nicolas Blaschke, Aaron and Christian Rowden, Emily Fournier, Cathy Freeman, Adam Osborne, Ariel Sayers, Jeremy Hardy, Billie Jo Moore, Forrest Jr., Geof and Noah Davis; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being made by Veilleux Funeral Home in Waterville. Visitation will be held there from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, Dec. 1.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Waterville on Monday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m., with burial at St. Francis Cemetery immediately afterward. Following the burial, a reception and celebration of Fred's life will be held at the REM Center in Waterville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maine Catholic Charities.

I sent an e-mail to Mary before I saw this, so I wanted to send my condolences to the entire family. I've known so many of you - Mrs. Blaschke, Lyn, Mary, Rick, Laurie - growing up and in high school, of course, with the three oldest. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My prayers and thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of your husband and father. Our mutual friend, Dick, always spoke highly of him and his love of fishing. NOW, together they can explore more great fishing spots in a very unique place.
