Pat was born on Oct. 13, 1925, to Esther Gross and George Patterson in Belfast. He was raised by his beloved aunt, Irene Bickford, from the age of 3 months and called her Mom.
Pat served his country as a Marine stationed in the South Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for the city of Augusta for more than 20 years as a firefighter, retiring in 1979 with the rank of lieutenant. Never one to sit around, he then went to work for the Augusta Country Club and spent 22 years there.
When we think of Pat, a true American comes to mind. He loved helping others any way he could and spent his life serving others. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Augusta, and had been a member of the Elks and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
On June 24, 1989, he married his wife, Colleen (Berry) Leighton, and they made their home in Manchester. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Marc Patterson, of Atkinson, N.H.; his stepson, Rick Leighton, and companion Leslie, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Grigalus, of Potomac, Md.; a brother-in-law, William Rodzen, of Winterport; and a cousin, Joyce Callahan, of Belgrade Lakes.
A graveside service will be at noon Monday, Oct. 22, at Memorial Chapel, Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Road, Augusta.

Uncle Pat was married to my Auntie Edith when I was young. I´ll always remember his laugh. It echoed in that old Augusta home. Fond memories.
Is Marc okay?
