Jack McCollor Obituary

Jack P. McCollor
1948 - 2016
SKOWHEGAN - Jack P. McCollor, 68, passed away peacefully Oct. 7, 2016, at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Skowhegan on Feb. 21, 1948, the son of Reginald and Erdine (Rollins) McCollor.
Jack was raised in Moscow and Caratunk and he graduated from Upper Kennebec Valley High School in Bingham, Class of 1966. Two years later he married his high school sweetheart, Merleen (Stevens). In 1974 they moved into their home in Skowhegan to raise their growing family where they have spent the last 42 years.
Jack worked at SAPPI Fine Paper for 27 years, starting out as an electrical and instrumentation technician and working his way up to the position of maintenance superintendent of the pulp mill, retiring from Sappi in 2003. Jack also worked as a master electrician for Travers Electric for several years. He was a founding member of the Skowhegan Elk's Lodge.
Jack enjoyed being outdoors especially fishing at Pierce Pond and hunting with his father, a tradition he carried on with his own sons. Jack loved to travel, but he especially loved traveling when he could work a trip to a poker table into the itinerary. Over the years, Jack and his family traveled to the casinos in Las Vegas many times.
Jack is survived by his wife of 48 years, Merleen McCollor; son, Bruce McCollor of Skowhegan, daughter, Sandy McCollor of Skowhegan; grandchildren, Kevin McCollor, Isabella, Ashley and Hailey Kahn all of Keystone Heights, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Mandy McCollor-Kahn and husband Kevin Kahn of Keystone Heights, Fla.; father, Reginal McCollor of Bingham; sisters, Alieta Belanger and husband Ron of Bingham, Debbie Nadeau and husband Paul of Hollis Center and Janet Plourde and husband Ronn of Skowhegan; cousin, John McCollor and wife Joan of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Kevin McCollor; and his mother, Erdine McCollor.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Southside Cemetery, Skowhegan with Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. There will be a gathering following the service at the Skowhegan Federated Church, Island Ave.
Jack's family extends their appreciation and gratitude to Maine General Hospice for the exceptional care they provided, especially Nancy Wilbur and Sandra Bacon.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
