GARDINER - John Anthony
Uhing, originally from Wynot, Neb., died unexpectedly at his home in Gardiner at the age of 51 years.
Following his graduation from Wynot High School in 1986, he served 20 years in the US Navy in Illinois, California, Italy, Iceland, Japan, Texas, North Carolina and Rhode Island as a corpsman and an X-ray technician. He retired to Gardiner and loved to hunt, read, and spend time with his three beloved dogs, Rosie, Harley and Lily.
He was preceded in death by his fiancee Dawn Ruszczyk; his grandparents; his mother Gail; brother Joey, sister Jeanie, brother-in-law Tito Galvez; nieces Candace and Kirsten, unnamed angels who died prior to birth. His kind nature and wacky sense of humor will be sorely missed by his father, Francis Uhing of Wynot, Neb; brother Gerry Uhing and his wife Shelly (Johnson) of South Sioux City, Neb., sister Lori Steffen and husband Joe of St Paul, Minn., sister Lynette Richardson and husband Ron of Anoka, Minn. and sister Deb Galvez of St. Cloud, Minn.; his nephews Joshua Galvez and Noah Uhing, and nieces Nichelle, Joanna and Allie Steffen, Katie and Brittany Galvez, Brileigh Uhing, and Ashley and Guinevere Richardson; and a very close friend Ruth Guilmette of Gardiner; and adopted in-laws Barbara Ruszczyk and Victoria Stevens of Harpswell have served as his family in Maine and will miss him greatly as well.
A memorial service will be held at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., in Gardiner on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 at 5 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Wynot, Neb. at some future date.
