Jon Davis Obituary

Jon M. Davis, Sr.
1939 - 2018
SIDNEY - Jon M. Davis, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Hospital at Togus on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.
Jon was born in Augusta May 13, 1939, the first son of Maurice and Lena (Willet) Davis. He grew up in Augusta and attended local schools, graduating from Cony High School in 1957. He was a four-year varsity letterman in football and track.
Jon married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Hammond, also a member of the Cony class of 1957. He entered the U.S. Navy, with multiple sea cruises throughout the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. After completing his Navy tours, he enjoyed a long career in banking. For many years, Jon was a fixture at the National Bank of Gardiner, on Water Street where he was the Manager after the bank was bought by Merrill Trust. Later, he moved to the corporate headquarters in Bangor to be Officer of the trust department until his retirement.
Through the years, Jon enjoyed many outdoor activities, including deer and bird hunting with his father, hiking and mountain climbing, playing in the Augusta Softball League, coaching Augusta Farm League, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He also liked helping out his friend, Bill Cole, on his farm in Sidney.
He served and was a member of several organizations over the years, including the Gardiner Rotary Club, Gardiner Board of Trade, the Tri-City Bowman and the Augusta Pine Cone Reelers.
Jon is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Jon Davis, Jr. and his wife, Jutta and Michael Davis; his daughter, Lisa LeBourdais and her husband, Kurt; eight grandchildren, Bryce, Brittany, Brandi, Yannick, Gwen, Justin, Brandon, and Arenda; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Timmy and Norman Davis.
Jon's family wants to express its' sincere gratitude to all our friends who extended a helping hand during Jon's illness, especially to the hospice unit staff at the Veterans Administration at Togus.
There will be no funeral. There will be a private springtime burial.
Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church Street, Augusta. Memories, condolences, photos, and videos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of our website at www.khrfuneralhomes.com.

To the Davis, Lebourdais Family, we are so sorry for your loss. For many years Lisa and I were very close friends. You would rarely see one without the other. Mr. & Mrs. Davis were always so very kind to me. I spent many childhood sleepovers at the Davis home. Always a fun place to go and hang out. We are so very sorry for your loss. The Grant Family
