Larry was a veteran of the Air Force, earning the rank of sergeant, serving for a combined time of eight years, two months and two days in domestic and foreign service. He attended college and worked for the Kennebec Water District for many years. He had numerous hobbies and interests, and often enjoyed these with his lifelong friend, Larry Small. The two Larrys went on many adventures together. My Larry not only enjoyed, but excelled at hunting, fishing and golf. Larry took these hobbies to another level, making each hobby his own. Everyone he loved got to enjoy the rewards of his hobbies. Let's not forget his perfectly measured woodpile!
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna (Oliver) Cookson; his mother, Rosalie (Buzzell) Cookson; son Chad Cookson and partner Karley; brothers, Jim Keddrell and wife Candy, Philip Keddrell and wife Joan; sister, Susan Carey and husband Greg; granddaughter, Zoey Cookson; a special child, Corina Gill; a special member of the family, Linda Keddrell; lifelong friend, Larry Small; and many, many nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by sister, Nancy Stone in 1985, and a brother, Stephen Cookson in 2004.

Donna, I'm so sorry to hear that Larry is gone. He was the best Water Operator I ever met and I loved working with him. He was always challenging and a trusted friend despite our differences. We will all miss him.

"Uncle Larry" will not be forgoten. I knew Larry for several years, but only got to work with him for a short time. Larry encouraged me to start my adventure in Alaska. I carry one or the other of two custom made knives that Larry made, everywhere I go. I will cherish them and think of Larry on every adventure I have. I wish that he could have come with me. Donna and Chad my thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you and keep you.

I worked with Larry for 14 years and know of his dedication to a job well done. Larry was always helpful, and shared generously of his knowledge and skills. Central Maine benefitted directly through Larry's exemplary service at the Kennebec Water District. Larry had a great sense of humor and never shy with his opinions. I very much enjoyed my friendship with "Uncle" Larry and very grateful for all the knowledge he shared with me. I will miss him, my thoughts and prayers are with Donna and Chad.
