Marion Thompson Obituary

SKOWHEGAN -- Marion Withee Thompson, 71, of Skowhegan passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan.

She was born in Madison on Jan. 28, 1935, the daughter of Arthur and Ethelyn (Collins) Withee.

She married David W. Thompson on June 17, 1953, and they shared 52 wonderful years together.

Marion was a newspaperwoman for many years and worked for the Portsmouth Herald, Honolulu Star Bulletin, Wall Street Journal in Chicopee, Mass. and Vallejo Times Herald in California.

She retired from the University of Maine-Farmington Office of Public Information in 1992.

She enjoyed making wedding dresses and afghans and she loved both knitting and crocheting. Marion also enjoyed spending summers at her camp in Smithfield.

She was predeceased by her mother, Ethelyn; her father, Arthur; her stepfather, William; and brothers, Clyde and Edward.

She was survived by her husband, David Thompson, of Skowhegan; brothers, Arthur Withee and wife, Joanne, of Fairfield, Jerry Withee and wife, Rachel, of Skowhegan, David Withee of Skowhegan, Ronald Withee and his wife, Rose, of Anson; sisters, Virginia Washburn and husband, Reginald, of Skowhegan, Martha Ann Walker of Madison, Judy Turgeon and husband, Garry, of Madison, Suzanne Walsh and husband, Kevin, of Madison; sister-in-law, Delores Withee, of Waterville; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.

No funeral services will be held at this time.
