Nicholas Ingrassia Obituary

WATERVILLE -- Nicholas Joseph Ingrassia, 66, of Jackman, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2007, after a brave battle with cancer, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit in Waterville. He was surrounded by love and had his family at his bedside.

Nick was born on Aug. 6, 1940, in his grandmother's apartment in Brooklyn, N.Y., firstborn son of Joseph J. and Marie (Cornicelli) Ingrassia. He spent childhood summers out in Shirley, N.Y., with many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins and loved going to Yankee Stadium and Ebbetts Field with his dad, mom and brother. He served in the Army during the 1960s and worked as a construction laborer for many years until he retired. Nick married Carol Philippas on May 24, 1974, on Long Island, N.Y., where they resided until moving to Maine in 1989. He was a volunteer driver for the presidential motorcade in Kennebunkport during the George Bush administration in the 1990s.

Nick's greatest passions were for his family, the Yankees, and his country, but not necessarily in that order. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and also loved working around his house and the grounds.

He had a special place in his heart for his two cats, Annie and Callie, and especially his best friend, Alan Rosenbaum of Arundel and his "little sidekick," Thomas Egan of Stony Brook, N.Y. He was also extremely proud of his "son," Nick Taylor of Jackman, who is serving his country in Iraq. Besides his devoted wife of 33 years, Carol, of Jackman, he is survived by his two adored daughters, Vanessa Nicole Ingrassia of New York and Cassandra Lynn Ingrassia of Jackman; one beloved brother, Fedele Ingrassia of Ohio; nieces Maria Mills of New York and Elizabeth Ingrassia of Ohio; one nephew, Joseph Ingrassia of Ohio; mother-in-law Marjorie "Ganny" Philippas of New York; godchildren Thomas Pugliese, Renee Robinson and Emma Philippas; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Until we meet again, so long for now!

Visitation will be held from 8 to 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 8, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Jackman, with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow at noon at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.

Arrangements are entrusted to Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
