Parker Blethen Obituary

SIDNEY -- Parker Dale Blethen, 78, husband of Bernice Lambert Blethen, went to be with his Lord on Dec. 3, 2009, with his wife at his side.

He was born in Thorndike on Nov. 5, 1931, son of George P. And Annie (Wilton) Blethen. Parker attended schools in Thorndike and Brooks and enlisted in the Army in December 1948 and was stationed at Fort Dix, N.J. He was honorably discharged in January 1950 when his father passed away and he was needed to care for his mother. He married Bernice E. Lambert of Thorndike on June 17, 1950. He worked for Lucas Tree and Armour Meats before spending 34 years at Central Maine Power Company.

Parker was a typical strong, hardworking Maine man. He loved building things and especially enjoyed trips to his camp on Moosehead Lake, living at his camp on Messalonskee Lake in the summer, and spending winters in Florida with his wife. Taking care of his family was the first priority in his life, from building houses to fixing cars to taking them to enjoy the outdoors. He always enjoyed a good time with music.

Parker was predeceased by his son, George P. Blethen; brothers Burliegh and Perry Blethen; sisters Mildred Algie, Pauline Ryder and Ethel Blethen; sister-in-law Julia Blethen; brother-in-law John Ladd; and great-nephew Joshua Ladd.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice; his son Dale and his wife, Joan, of Sidney; his daughter, Jeanne and her husband, David Lothrop, of Newton Center, Mass.; and his son David and his wife, Missi Blethen, of Sidney. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rob and his wife, Missy, and son Robby, Chad and his wife Kristin, sons Tait and Kyan, and future daughter Genesis, Shawn Lothrop and his wife, Heather, and daughter Eliana, Rebecca Holloway and her husband, Craig, Ryan Blethen, Chelsea Blethen, Brandi Bouchard and her partner, Scott Dumont, and daughter Taylor, Amanda Barrows and her husband Jesse, and daughter Riley, and Brandy French, Jamie and Shallon Libby. Parker's eyes always lit up at the sight of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the visiting nurses and aides at Beacon Hospice.

Friends are invited to visit 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland, where Masonic memorial services will be at 6 p.m. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, at the Sidney Second Baptist Church, West River Road Sidney. Burial will be at the Springer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Second Baptist Church of Sidney, 3022 West River Road, Sidney, ME 04330 or American Cancer Society of Maine, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. 7185002

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
