Patrick Carlton Wayne Mullen
1931 - 2017
WATERVILLE - Patrick Carlton Wayne Mullen, 86, passed away Monday afternoon Nov. 27, 2017, at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home with family at his bedside. He was born in Bangor on Nov. 4, 1931, the son of Simone Michaud and was adopted by Raymond Mullen of Lowell, Mass. after Raymond married his mother in 1940.
Patrick was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Waterville High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as a radio instructor and gained the rank of Radiomen Petty Officer 2nd Class. Patrick then was stationed n Augusta in the U.S. Naval Reserve as part of Surface Division I-29.
Patrick also worked in construction working overseas at Thule Air Base in Greenland when the Bay of Pigs and standoff with Russia took place in 962-63. He also worked in construction at the Maine Yankee Power Plant and was superintendent on two buildings being constructed for Colby College. He was a member of Union local #320.
In 1980, Patrick went to work for Colby, and was project supervisor on many new buildings and several renovation projects and retired from Colby in November 1994 after 14 years of employment.
He enjoyed going fishing with family and friends and watching Nascar racing. Patrick also enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, and was a member of the Waterville Lodge of Elks.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara E. (Tully) Mullen who passed away in 2004, his brother Paul Mullen and his sister-in-law Jane McMullin.
Patrick is survived by two daughters, Deborah Rivera and husband Tony of Waterville and Sheila Shay of Waterville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia and Nate Berkley of Virginia; four grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Rivera and Aron and Bobbie Shay all of California; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville, with committal prayers and burial to follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove Street, Waterville.
