Raymond Fisher Obituary

Raymond I. Fisher, Jr.
1929 - 2007
CLINTON - Raymond I. Fisher, Jr. passed on June 3, 2017, the result of pneumonia. He had been a resident of Bedside Manor East and we thank them for their excellent and professional loving care. Born Dec. 7, 1929, in Melrose, Mass., son of Raymond I. Fisher, Sr. & Edith (Emerson) Fisher.
Being a child of the great depression "Ray" grew up in the loving home of his maternal grandparents, Waldo and Mary Emerson's home. Pearl Harbor was attacked on his 12th birthday.
Ray started working at an early age growing a garden, working on a turkey farm, and other odd jobs. He was involved in Boys Scouts & church youth groups.
In the summer of 1944 Ray spent time at the Bailey Island home of his friend Bob Haskell's grandfather which began a lifelong love affair with Bailey Island, Maine.
Ray attended University of Maine, Brunswick, but not completing due to health issues.
Ray married Louise A. Conron on April 14, 1951. They took a honeymoon trip through Maine to Quebec City staying at the Chateau Frontenac and then stayed there again on their 50th wedding anniversary. They bought property on Bailey Island in June of 1951 and started to build a camp in 1952.
In June of 1954 Ray took a job with Hollingsworth & Whitney in Winslow and moved his family of four and mother-in-law, Ruth, to Clinton, all the while building his camp on Bailey Island.
Raising his family of four children in Clinton, working at Scott Paper Co. as a project engineer, and running his own business as a land surveyor(which he loved) Ray was involved and volunteered with Jaycees, Cub Scouts, Boys Scouts, school board, recreation dept. planning board, Lion's Club, and other organizations. Through it all Ray was a family man, loved spending time at his "country land" on the Hill Rd., summers at his beloved camp on Bailey Island, and traveled the world.
For those of you who knew Ray you know that he may have been the last man in Maine to truly understand the measure of a "cord of wood".
Raymond was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Barbara, and his brother-in-law Russell.
Ray is survived by his bride of 66 years, Louise; daughter Carol, son Wayne and wife Becky, son Alan and wife Kathy, son Tedd and wife Joyce; grandchildren are Jasmin, Brian, Ryan, Katelynn, Andrea, Shawn, John, Lindsey, Makayla, Michael, Lindsey, Garrett, and Evan;reat-grandchildren are Grayson, Quinn, Owen, Caleb, Jack and Nora.
There will be no visiting hours. The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Clinton Baptist Church, 10 Spring St., Clinton.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. An online guestbook may be signed and condolences expressed at www.gallantfh.com
