Robert R. Maheu
1929 - 2017
ANSON - Robert R. Maheu, aka "Papa," 87, of Anson, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017.
Robert was born on Aug. 26, 1929, in Anson, the son of Ralph and Dora (Dugas) Maheu. He was educated in the local school system.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1950. In 1952, he enlisted in the Air Force serving during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. In 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army and served through January 1963, with another honorable discharge.
He worked several jobs, including road construction and working in a plastics mill, and finally retired from his job at the fish hatchery in Embden. He loved fly-fishing and hunting, and he was a huge fan of harness racing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Turner) Maheu; eight stepchildren whom he loved and treated as his own: Donald Seeley and his wife Janice, Kathy Cousineau, Ricky Seeley, Sally Clark-McKinney and her husband Dan, Edmund Seeley and his partner Roxanne, Celeste MacDonald, Sueann Carrasco and her fiancé Stan, and Angela Longley. He also is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many good friends.
Robert was predeceased by his parents; his sister Shirley; two stepsons, Miles and Robert Seeley; son-in-law Gerard Cousineau; and several grandchildren.
Robert will be remembered as a loving husband, a great dad and wonderful grandfather.

Our family wishes to thank all the people who helped care for Robert, aka "Papa," especially Home Health Care and the hospice caregivers. Words can't express our appreciation for the care and compassion shown to our family. We were very blessed to have their help.
Friends are asked to join the family for a time of visitation Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, from 1-2 p.m. at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Graveside service will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery in Madison. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home, in Madison. www.gibersonfuneralhome.com
