1941-2014
GUILFORD - Stephen Emerson Hall, 72, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on May 9, 2014. Steve was born on Oct. 8, 1941, to Donald and Elizabeth Hall, of Dover-Foxcroft.
Steve graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1960. He moved to Houlton where he was the store manager for the First National chain of grocery stores. He later began his career in law enforcement as a patrol officer for the Houlton Police Department. From there he advanced his career by becoming a Maine State Game Warden, transferring to Jackman, and then to Guilford, where he was promoted from district warden to sergeant, and retired as a lieutenant. After retiring from the Warden Service, he took on a second career in real estate sales and management and also served three consecutive terms as a state senator in the Maine Legislature.
Steve was very active for many years in the Guilford Kiwanis Club, serving as its president as well as auctioneer. He served as president of the Piscataquis Country Club. He was chairman of the Piscataquis Republican Committee and served as a member of the SAD 4 school board.
Steve's many hobbies include golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, looking for good deals and spending time in the outdoors. He was always the happiest when he was helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; sons Steve and his wife, Carol, Rod and his partner, Concho, Galen and his wife, Lisa, Donnie and his wife, Judi; daughter Karen and her husband, Jon; his grandchildren, Christopher, Matt, Derek, Dustin, Danielle, Kaitlyn, Lindsay, Jacquelyn, Joseph, Joshua, Brad, Nick, Andrew and Adam; and his great-grandchildren, Braydon, Logan, Caleb, Quinton, Liliana, Maddi, Tucker, Cullen, Ashlynn, Shevlin.
He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Elizabeth; his sisters, Pat and Gloria; and his daughter, Cheryl.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., in Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Guilford United Methodist Church on North Main Street, with Pastor Reeni Cipullo officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery on Elm Street, in Guilford, followed by a celebration of life in the church parish hall.

Jeanette and family, Jim and I extend our sincere condolences. We always thought a lot of Steve and had fun when we bowled together. Will miss seeing him working around outside of the home he loved. He will be greatly missed.

Steve was a classmate of mine at FA. I enjoyed many happy days fishing with him in our youth, He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
