He was born on Sept. 18, 1946, in Gardiner, to Giles Minchin and Evelyn Webb.
When Tom was younger he was ranked one of the best outboard racers in the state. He will always be remembered for his never-ending smile. Tom enjoyed going to several NASCAR races with the boys. He also loved camping in the north woods and racing his No. 3 car at Wiscasset Speedway. His church families were an important part of his life.
Tom was employed by the Gardiner Water District for 40 years.
Tom was predeceased by his father, Giles and stepmother Mignonne; mother Evelyn Webb; and son Thomas Giles Minchin Jr.
He was survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy; son Jeffrey and his wife, Jill; daughter Kimberly Willard and her husband, Steve; stepsons Donald Swift and his wife, Debbie, Lee Swift and his wife, Michele, and Daniel Swift, and James Swift; grandchildren Jonathan and Samantha Willard, Jeffrey and Jennah Minchin and Ashley Powell, Shaina and Jake Swift, Rachel Swift, and Tomi Marie Minchin; and one great-grandson, Hunter Peaslee. Other survivors include his stepdad, Donald G. Webb and his wife, Jean; sister Margo Willette and her husband, Darrell; brothers Stephen Minchin and his wife, Donna, Donald E. Webb and his wife, Catherine, Ronald Webb and his wife, Marie, and Jonathan Webb and his wife, Judy; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Grace Community Chapel, Route 126, 187 Lewiston Road, West Gardiner. Burial will take place at the North Pittston Cemetery on Whitefield Road, Route 126. A gathering will follow at the Grace Community Church.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Alfond Center and the hospice team for the special care they gave Tom. Also, a special thank you goes out to Mary Bailey for her support of Tom and the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, c/o MaineGeneral Health, Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903, for pancreatic cancer research.
Arrangements are under the care of Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond 04357.
