Adam Minton Obituary

Adam W. Minton, 56
WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Adam Wilde Minton, 56, of Westerville, Ohio, formerly of Portland, died June 7, 2017, from a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 26, 1960, in Boston, Mass.
Adam grew up in Portland and was a graduate of Cheverus High School. Adam was predeceased by a brother, Seth Wilde Minton, an accomplished classical musician and pianist, who died at age 38 in 2001. Both Adam and Seth, as pre-teens and teens, were successful carriers for the Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram.
His adoptive mother of 46 years, Sarah Bishop Minton, urged all her six sons to achieve more than they thought they could. She, a professional musician, did not want her sons to be just "good enough." In Adam's case, it worked as evidenced by his successful business career.
She also taught all her sons how to wash, dry and fold clothes, clean a room, cook a meal, sew on a button, hem a pair of pants and play an instrument. Adam played trumpet and was selected to play in the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Adam excelled at all tasks of "domestic engineering" and con-sequently, during his marriage to Dr. Maureen Stubbs, his innate efficiency and consistent performance of these skills allowed Dr. Stubbs to pursue her career as an anesthesiologist.
Adam graduated from Cornell University on a Naval ROTC schol-arship, and served five years active duty and 15 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
When Adam volunteered for the U.S. Navy, owing to his language skills, he became fluent in Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. His fluency in Russian impressed his family and friends during the wedding of his brother Erik in Ukraine.
He also became an excellent and innovative chef and loved to cook for family and friends. Adam grew up surrounded by lovely gardens. As an adult, he often sought his parents' advice as he honed his own gardening skills to achieve beautiful gardens at his home, which are part of his lasting legacy.
He is survived by his father and adoptive mother, Dr. Paul R. Minton and Sarah Bishop Minton, of Alpharetta, Ga.; his children, Aidan R. and Chloe G. Minton; his former wife, Dr. Maureen Stubbs (Gary Moser); brothers Ethan Minton (Amy Minton), of Brunswick; Ben, and Herbert Edgecomb (Marybeth Edgecomb), of Atlanta, Ga.; and Erik Minton, of Madison, Wis.; as well as in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

I was in the navy reserves with Mr. Minton. Everyone in the unit enjoyed having him as our commander to our unit. I loved working for him he was very organized and a very hard worker. He also cared what our unit done and wanted to be the best. I wished I kept in contact with him but lost phone number. I appreciate what he did for in the leadership role. I know it´s 7 years after the fact but I just wanted to say he was a special man

Sorely missed.
Adam our chats over the phone from many miles apart, were sustenance for my soul.
Wishing you were still in this Earthly place, so we could hug and cry and simply be ourselves with each other. So easy to do with you. Always,
See you down the road apiece. Cousin Anne Martin xxxxx

Just a few weeks ago, Adam and I got together for beers in New York as he passed through with his brother. It was so good to see him and catch up - and in particular, to hear what was happening with Chloe and Aidan - he was deliriously proud of both of them. He was looking forward to a college trip with Chloe - scheduled for now. It is shocking that he should be taken so suddenly and unexpectedly. My heart and prayers go out to Aidan and Chloe. I will dearly miss his deep, warm soul. Peace.

Dear Aiden and Chloe:
I first met your father when he was 17, and we have kept in touch intermittently over the years. He was a sweet, kind, and sensitive soul, and he fought hard to overcome the tragedies and setbacks that marred his childhood and young adulthood. The death of his brother, Seth, was a terrible blow to him, and the source of much continuing anguish over the years. The one thing that always came through in our discussions was the depth of his love for and pride in you two. Just a few weeks before his death, he spoke of coming to visit us in Maryland to explore colleges in the greater D.C. area. He seemed happier and more at peace than he had in many years. Please know that you are always welcome here, and if we can put you up and help you explore colleges, we would be happy to do so. My own daughter just finished her junior year and is starting the college search so we would be happy to have you join us. In this time of great sorrow, I hope you will be able to appreciate how much your father accomplished and how very much he loved you!!
