Alfred Hanscom Obituary

Alfred Curtis 'Hank' Hanscom, 86
CASCO -- Alfred Curtis 'Hank' Hanscom, 86, died on Aug. 4, 2010.
He was born in Casco on May 19, 1924, the son of Fred C. and Dorothy Curtis Hanscom. He was a graduate of Casco High School. Hank served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in India Burma as well as Central Burma where he received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the American Campaign Ribbon.
On Sept. 4, 1946, he married Winifred Robinson and had four children together. Hank was a self-employed logger for many years. After retiring from logging he worked at the Naples Country Club and most recently at the Casco/Naples Bulky Waste Facility.
Hank was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He won many golf tournaments and set a course record at the Naples Country Club. Hank and Winnie wintered in North Myrtle Beach, SC for several years where he played golf every day and made his last hole in one at age 80.
He loved life, talking to people and telling stories. He once said, 'If you wake up in the morning and put your feet on the floor, then kick up your heels and say yippee, I made it to another day.' His optimistic attitude will be greatly missed.
Hank was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Marilyn Cram. Surviving are his wife Winnie; daughter Cindy Bachelder and her husband Brian, three sons, George Hanscom and his partner Holly, Eric Hanscom and his wife Diane, Jeffrey and his wife Winona; two sisters, A. Josie Morrell and Natalie Lombard; grandchildren, Curt Hanscom, Belinda Van Decker and her husband Ryan, Amy MacEachern, Angella Hanscom, Jennifer Hanscom and Jeffrey Lee Hanscom; step-grandchildren, Katie Marcotte and Stephen Marcotte; and five great-grandchildren.

Well, old buddy, your day finally got here. I will miss dropping in at your place on the Ridge and chatting with you while gleaning through all your "good" stuff in the yard. I know God is waiting for you up there, - don't forget your golf-clubs! As ever, old neighbor, Franklin Tenney (and Gertie.)
