Amelia Brown Obituary

Amelia (Mehos)
Brown, 93
PEAKS ISLAND - Amelia "Amy" (Mehos) Brown, 93, died of natural causes on August 18, 2015 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Amy was born on August 30, 1921 in Boston, Mass. the oldest daughter of the late Harry and Asimo Mehos. She graduated from Malden High School, the class of 1938.
During World War II Amy corresponded with a serviceman who was stationed overseas. Upon his return from the war a friend introduced them at a dance, where they fell in love and started their lives together. They eventually settled on Peaks Island and brought up their family. She and Jimmy were married for 57 years.
Amy was involved on Peaks Island as the past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Randall MacVane Post 142 and she was a life long member of the Holy Trinity, Greek Orthodox Church, in Portland. Once her children were grown, Amy worked at Day's Jewelry Store, on Congress Street for over 20 years. Amy occupied her time with reading, crocheting, and she volunteered by knitting tiny hats for premature babies. One of her most favorite activities was going out to eat sea food with any member of her family.
Amy is survived by her four children, Peter Brown and wife Denise of Jay, Harry Brown and wife Maureen of Gorham, Jonathan Brown and wife Beth of Ellsworth, and Denise Collins and husband John of Mt Pleasant, SC.; her eight grandchildren, Rebekka Brown Hayes, Derek Brown and wife Robin, Christopher Brown, Jason Brown and wife Tess, Sarah Herstich and husband Casey, Emily Brown -Dyer and husband Nathaniel, Nicole Jones and husband Irving and Morgan Imboden and husband Tommy; as well as her five great-grandchildren, Zachary and Nikkolas Hayes, Kyra and Kyle Brown and Callie Brown. Amy's life centered around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lavished them with love and cherished the time that she spent with them.
She is predeceased by sisters, Constance Guiffre, Chrisanthi Doulis, and two brothers George Mehos and Nicholas Mehos.
Special thanks to Jamie Semon and Sue Benner who worked so lovingly to help Amy remain at home on Peaks Island as well as the staff on the 4th floor of Maine Medical Center.
Friends and family may attend a time of visitation Friday August 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at A. T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. The Brown family is an amazing clan and its no wonder if you knew the matriarch of this great family. Mrs. Brown was one of the sweetest and kindest people I know and treated me like one of her kids. In recent years some of the best times on peaks island came from stopping by for a hug and a kiss on the cheek from my "other mother".

This wonderful lady will be sorely missed and I hope Jay and Beth and the rest of the Brown family can cherish the memories and lasting legacy of goodness she leaves behind.

Deepest sympathy to the entire Brown family for the loss of this wonderful woman. Loved spending time with her at the holidays and visiting with her on Peaks Island when we went to visit! As Chase said from Italy when she read her obituary, what a legacy she left behind! She will be so very missed by all who knew her.

All our love,
Charlie, Terry, Chase and Justin
