Anne Laura (Faulkner) Murphy, 88
FREEPORT -- Anne Laura (Faulkner) Murphy, 88, formerly of Central Street, Hallowell, died on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at Hawthorn House in Freeport following a long illness.
She was born in Augusta on Dec. 6, 1922, the daughter of the late Robert and Laura (Lewis) Faulkner.
Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1941 and attended Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.
She had been employed by the State of Maine for over 40 years and had served as Governor Reed's secretary during his term in office.
Mrs. Murphy was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallowell.
She was predeceased by her husband, Timothy J. Murphy; and two sisters, Jane Faulkner Merleau and Elizabeth Faulkner Bartlett. Mrs. Murphy is survived by a sister, Mary Faulkner Maguire of Lancaster, S.C.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dr. Elizabeth Pierce of Freeport and Ann Merlau Fulton of Augusta are proud to have become her honorary daughters.
Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hallowell. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lewiston.
