Beverly Brennan Obituary

Beverly May Brennan, 80
PORTLAND - Beverly May Brennan passed away on Oct. 24, 2015, in Royal Palm Beach, Fla., where she had lived for the past several years. Prior to that, Beverly and her husband Jimmy lived their entire married life in Portland. Beverly, an only child, was born on June 3, 1935, to Merle D. Niles and Mattie Niles McLaughlin in Bath.
She met her husband, James (Jimmy) Brennan at Mercy Hospital, Portland, where she was a nurse and he her patient. They married at St. Mary's Church, Bath, on Feb. 27, 1960. They were blessed with two daughters, Maureen and Patricia, who were with their mother at the time of her death.
Beverly earned her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital, Portland, and later earned an M.S. in Anesthesiology, also from Mercy. She spent her entire nursing career at Mercy Hospital, leaving in the mid-70s to assist Jimmy with his parking lot business. Beverly and Jimmy also ran a food concession at Pine Point Beach and Crescent Beach State Park for over 15 years, allowing their daughters to grow up on the beach. Bev was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, putting her family's needs always at the forefront. She loved card games, especially Three Card Poker, and almost never left the casino with less money than she took!
Preceding Beverly in death were Jimmy, her beloved husband of 47 years; her parents; and her son-in-law Daniel Ferran; also John Brennan and Kathleen Brennan, Jimmy's brother and sister. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and James Paul of Ketchikan, Alaska, daughter Patricia Ferran of Ellicott City, Md.; grandson Derek Paul and his wife Ashley, granddaughters Courtney Paul and Meghan Ferran; and great-grandchildren, Ashton, Luke and Ariel Paul. Beverly is also survived by Jimmy's brothers, Francis Brennan, Gov. Joseph Brennan and his wife Connie, and Paul Brennan, by Jimmy's sisters Mary Toker, and Sister Barbara Ann of the Sisters of Mercy, Jimmy's sister-in-law Merrye Lynn Brennan; many Brennan nieces and nephews; and good friends both in Portland and Royal Palm Beach.
A "breakfast memorial" was held at Beverly's favorite eatery, Hilary's, in Royal Palm Beach with her friends there. A memorial service in Beverly's memory will be held in Portland at a date to be determined in the summer of 2016.

Amazing, this is the first time I've seen a legacy page reopen. Another great tribute.
Since this page closed I've heard of the heroic yet tragic story of Bev's dad officer Merle Niles of the Bath Maine Police Department. Who was recognized as dieing in the line of duty. The recognition was made after Beverly's death. The
Recognition was made from work of a detective from the bath Police Department. I believe his last name is Couture. A truly amazing story of Beverly's family. Blessings to the Niles and Brennan family's.

Maureen and Patty, you may not remember me, but I worked at Crescent Beach for your folks when you were little. I used to take you to Funtown! Thoughts of your mom and dad popped into my mind today, and this is where my search led me. I have very fond memories of all of you. Your folks were very supportive of me and will always hold a very special place in my heart.

So sorry for your loss. We had so much fun playing Bingo with Mrs. B. I really miss my politics talks with your Dad too. They are wonderful people. And they are back together again.

We are all so sad to hear of Bev passing. Please let us know when the memorial will be this summer in Maine. She was a huge part of our lives and will be sadly missed. I will always remember her cross stitching while Jimmy "picked our brains" or sitting by the pool while Aubrey swam. Aubrey's Christmas stocking your mom made for her will now hold a special fondness and tons of memories. God Bless, Tim, Lori and Aubrey Gurney
