C. Clark Johnson
BOOTHBAY--C. Clark Johnson died on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the Gregory Wing, St. Andrew's Village, Boothbay Harbor from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). His wife and children were by his side.
Born on November 18, 1926 in Elizabeth, N.J., Dr. Johnson was graduated from Union High School. He won the State Championship for the high hurdles and high jump his senior year. After his freshman year at Yale University, Dr. Johnson served in the Philippines for eighteen months as staff sergeant in the United States Army. Returning to Yale, he was a center/forward on the varsity basketball team which played across the country and participated in the NCAA tournament at Madison Square Garden. An enthusiastic supporter of Yale, he served several terms on the board of the Association of Yale Alumni and was a member of the Class of 1949 Council, as well as president of the Yale Club of Central New Jersey and board member of the Yale Club of Western Maine.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, where he was a member of Delta Sigma Delta, Dr. Johnson practiced dentistry in Chatham, N.J. for 40 Years. He was president of the Tri-County Dental Association, taught prosthedontics for ten years at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry, and was a member of the American Society of Restorative Dentistry. He volunteered his dental services for the Bonnie Brae Farm for Boys and Overlook Hospital. Dr. Johnson also served as president of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Summit, N J.
Dr. Johnson served on the board of St. Andrew's Hospital and with his wife co-chaired the annual fund drive. He was a member of the Lions Club and with his son ran their blood drives for many years. He was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club.
Dr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Dake Johnson of Boothbay; a son, Peter B. Johnson of Boothbay; two daughters, Andrea J. Elwell of Chatham,N.J., and Virginia L. Johnson of Lexington, Mass.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Carol R.Johnson of Cambridge, Mass.
