Carl Richardson Obituary

Carl M. Richardson, 85
PORTLAND - Carl M. Richardson, 85, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at the Barron Center where he resided for the last four years. Carl was born on Jan. 1, 1930, in Portland, the third son of James Willard Richardson and Pauline Annette Richardson. He was a graduate of Deering High School and played the saxophone in the high school band. His love for music allowed him the opportunity to play in a local dance band.
Carl worked at A. H. Benoit Company prior to enlisting with the US Navy. He served for three years and upon his return from the Navy he resumed his work with Benoit's where he met the love of his life, Mary Lou Hughes. It was truly love at first sight. Carl and Mary Lou were married on March 31, 1957. Carl always referred to Mary Lou as "my little bride." They enjoyed 58 magical years together and raised three children.
Soon after, Carl accepted a position with New England Telephone where he continued to work until 1962. Carl left the telephone company to work in the family business as vice president of C. A. Hughes Oil Company in Westbrook, for many years. The family business was sold to Harris Oil Company where Carl continued to work until his retirement in 1992.
Carl had many interests including golfing, boating on Sebago Lake, motorcycling with his son, snowmobiling with the family, poker with friends, flying private airplanes, and most of all his time spent with family. Carl was a member of the Bald Eagles Flying Club and spent many happy hours in the sky. The traditional family Sunday drive frequently began at the airport.
Carl was a past member of both Warren-Phillips Masonic Lodge and Kora Temple. He was a member of the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church.
Carl and Mary Lou resided in Westbrook for 33 years where they worked and raised their family. They retired to a home on Sebago Lake where many happy family memories were made.
Carl was predeceased by his parents; brother James Richardson; and son-in-law David H. Davis, Jr. Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Lou Richardson of Westbrook; daughter, Lisa A. Varney and husband William of Lewiston, daughter, Lori M. Davis of Standish, son, Carl H. Richardson and his wife Lorna of Raymond. Carl was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Jared and Joshua Peters, Benjamin and Aimee Davis, Erika and Jenna Richardson; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Chelsea Peters.
The family wants to express their gratitude for the wonderful, loving care that they provided to Carl.
