Carroll Lewis Obituary

Carroll 'Freddie' Lewis, 90
WALDOBORO -- Carroll 'Freddie' Lewis, 90, previously of North Berwick, passed away at his home at 'Smith's Foster Home' in Waldoboro, on Saturday, May 28, 2011.
He was born on July 11, 1920, in North Berwick, the son of Fred Jacob and Eva (Boston) Lewis.
Carroll, better known as Freddie, was the youngest of five sons. He attended school for several years but was never able to learn to read. He was a very friendly and helpful person; and well liked in North Berwick. When his parents could no longer give him the care he needed, his twin brother, Carlton, provided a home for awhile with him and his family.
Carroll lived in several adult foster homes, the last being Smith's foster Home in Waldoboro where he resided for the past 33 years. He was very active in the community, attending Riverside Adult Services at Chase's Point and Mobius Inc. in Damariscotta, and bowling twice a month (not many 90 year olds go bowling). Until he 'retired,' he enjoyed working in the Smith Family Vegetable Garden.
He loved all animals, big and small; dogs, cats and especially horses. Freddie loved celebrating the holidays and birthdays. Freddie loved good food; when his twin brother or favorite niece visited, he always wanted to go to Moody's Diner for liver and onions and chocolate cream pie. He would laugh when his great nephew Damon Laflin wouldn't eat his own chocolate chip cookie but dug into Carroll's pie instead. He would always take home an extra piece of their chocolate fudge cake, compliments of the Moody's Diner. He recently tried lobster pie, but cake was his favorite!
The family wishes to thank Frank Millett, Dr. Kevin Davey, Alan and Nancy Smith and family, Mobius, Inc. and the staff at Riverside Adult Services for all their compassion toward Freddie throughout the years.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Floyd Knight Lewis, George Boston Lewis, Clarence Fred Lewis, twin brother Carlton Lewis; and favorite sister-in-law, Celia F. Lewis. Surviving are four nieces, Tenley Prince and her husband Harry of Saco, their family, Alyssa and Jamie DiPietro, Angela Prince and Damon Laflin; Linda Theriault and her husband Bruce and sons Sean and Adam of Buxton; Carlene Alofs and husband David and children Zack, Grace and Courtney of Scarborough; and Barbara Lewis and her children Molly and Ryan McKinney of Sarasota, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, at 11 a.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in North Berwick. Arrangements are in the care of the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick.
