Charlotte Libby Obituary

Charlotte Moreshead Libby, 76 PORTLAND -- Charlotte Moreshead Libby, 76, of Portland and beloved wife of 49 years to Robert W. Libby, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008, after complications with appendicitis. She was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Portland to the late Charles and Cora (Ricker) Moreshead. Charlotte graduated from Deering High School in 1950 and received a B.A. in English from the University of Maine at Orono in 1954. For 25 years she taught English at Camden, Bath, Lincoln Junior High School, Deering High School, and most recently South Portland High School where she retired in 1992. For her, teaching was more than a vocation; it was a passion with each student representing an opportunity for Charlotte to enhance her students' lives. She was determined to improve their English skills while establishing a personal relationship with each. During her lifetime, Charlotte was an active member of three churches: Oak Street Friends Meeting, Central Square Baptist and Clark Memorial. Over the years Charlotte was also involved with several fraternal organizations. She was a member of Rainbow as a young woman and had served as Worthy Advisor of Portland Assembly, joined Eastern Star and had been a past Worthy Matron of Deering Chapter, and a past Worthy Grand Matron of the State of Maine. In addition she had an avid interest in music having been a vocalist for years. In her retirement besides Eastern Star, Charlotte enjoyed traveling, the Red Sox and especially being with her family. Besides her husband Bob, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Bill Jodice of South Windsor, Conn.; two grandsons whom she adored, Dan Jodice of Lebanon, N.H. and Kevin Jodice of South Windsor, Conn.; a devoted brother, Doug Moreshead and his wife Joleen of Cumberland, and a loyal sister, Glen Baldwin and her husband Bob of Frederick, Md. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Charlene Moreshead. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and dear friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Cedars Nursing Care Center for their compassion and support while Charlotte was a resident there. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlotte's memory to: The American Stroke Association 51 U.S. Route 1 Suite M Scarborough, Maine 04074 Charlotte Moreshead Libby Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home & Cremation Service 775-3763

To Charlotte's family, I graduated from DHS with Charlotte, and lived on Frances St., when she lived on Bolton St., I was very happy to see her at our reunion held at The Salwater Grill, she was in a wheelchair, but looked very happy and cheerful, and we re-introuduced ourselves at that time. She was a lovely lady, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you, Sincerely Joan (Martin) Stackhouse

To Mr. Libby, Sue and family,

I knew the Libby family from church and Rainbow. I was lucky enough to see Mr. and Mrs. Libby in the past year or so when visiting my Mom at The Woods at Canco. I had a long overdue chance to give them both a hug. Mrs. Libby was a great friend to my Mom always including her in social activities. She was a mother figure to many Rainbow girls and she left a lasting impression on me that I will carry in my heart forever. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Love,

Charlotte was a very kind and considerate lady. Always smiling and wanting to talk with you. We in Eastern Star will surely miss her. I was very fortunate to have been one of her deputies while she was Worthy Grand Matron. We all loved her dearly.

My Dear Sue and Bob,
I was very saddened to read the passing of Charlotte although I knew she had been in declining health in the past few years. She and my mother were very dear friends through Eastern Star and Rainbow and I have many fraternal memories of both of them. Charlotte's smile always brightened my day and her positive attitude in life was one that I will always remember. She always had a kind word to say to me especially after a guest officers' night in Rainbow when my ritualistic work had gone smoothly. She was such a caring, thoughtful woman. Hold onto those wonderful memories of such a wonderful person and please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. With love and sympathy. Cheryl Ferris Jacques

Charlotte was a very stunning lady. So loved the Order of Eastern Star and was truely devoted to it. She will be missed by many in the State of Maine as well as out of State. She will always have a special place in my heart.
