Dwight Edwards Obituary

Dwight H. Edwards, 66
FLORIDA -- Dwight H. Edwards, 66, with God's Amazing Grace, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at home with his wife, Tricia and family at his side. Dwight fought a courageous two year battle with cancer with never a complaint.
Dwight was born in Lynn, Mass., the son of Elizabeth and Jonas Edwards. Dwight was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School where he played the clarinet in the Lynn Public School Marching Band. He was a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, and sang with the Bates Choir. Dwight was very involved in Junior Achievement for many years.
Dwight grew up in Lynn, Mass. for many years and summered in Maine in earlier years at the family's West Auburn Farm on Lake Auburn and later at their camp on Sebago Lake.
Dwight was Vice President of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Maine for 17 years before moving to South Florida and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida for 10 years. After retiring from Blue Cross/Blue Shield, he worked for Ranger Construction as Safety Director for three years before retiring with his wife, Tricia to Lady Lake, Fla., in 2004.
Dwight was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a kind and gentle spirit. He loved going on trips in their RV, motorcycling, tennis, summers in Maine and spending time with family and friends. To know him was to love him.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife Tricia; his mother, Elizabeth Edwards; his sister, Carol Edwards; son Brian and wife Kelly Edwards; granddaughter, Rose Edwards; daughter Wendy Edwards; step-daughter, Kelly Hopkins, step-son, Jamie and wife Christine Schneider; step-grandson, Tyler Hopkins, step-granddaughter, Amanda Warkala; and little dog, PrinceE.
A memorial to celebrate this wonderful man's life will be held in Lady Lake, Fla. in April and also in Maine in the summer, dates yet to be determined.
May God bless your soul and spirit, Dwight, we love you.

Tricia, I was saddened to learn of Dwight's passing. We worked together at Blue Cross of Florida for several years. I was an underwriter for Florida Combined Life in Jacksonville and transferred to Ft. Lauderdale in 1996 to take a district director position with FCL. I worked out of Dwight's office. He was a kind and wonderful man. I always liked him. We danced together at company functions. He was a lot of fun. I met you once in Ft. Lauderdale right after you and Dwight started dating. We were at dinner with some other BCBSF people. Please know that you are in my prayers. Dwight was one of a kind and will be missed by many.

Dwight was a great roommate to have at Bates not just because he had a car but because he was a lot of fun to be around. He was a laid back kind of guy with a great outlook on life. I will greatly miss seeing him during his summer visits to Maine. Woody Trask, Auburn, Maine

Dwight and I only met once, but I liked him way before I met him. He had married one of my best friends and he had made her happier that I had ever seen her before in the almost 50 years we have known each other. He had stood by her when she was in need as she did with him. Always thinking of each other and not of themselves, as lovers and mates should, but often don’t do.
No words touch the hurt in a heart that has lost its love and I am not going to say that I know how it feels or that time will make it better. Time does not make it better; you just learn to live with the pain.
God has given my friend his arm to lean on and I cannot do better that that. Jesus, please comfort my friend.

Dwight and I go back many years....all the way to Junior High School. It was great to reconnect with him here at HH and recall together some great memories. Bless you Tricia for your kind and loving care of dear Dwight.

Dwight was not only a co-worker of my husband, Jim's, but a good friend and supporter. An interesting coincidence that cancer took both of these fine men from us.
