Edwin Frost Obituary

Edwin Brant Frost III
GEORGIA -- Edwin Brant Frost III, by the grace of his loving Savior, passed into the arms of our sovereign God on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.
Brant was born on Aug. 17, 1930, in Portland, to Dr. Frederick and Mrs. Helen Frost. He graduated from Deering High School and the University of Maine-Orono, and then served as an officer in the U.S. Army.
In 1955 he married Janet Beem, also of Portland. They moved to Middle, Ga., in 1955, where they would rear four sons. Brant was a sales representative for Freeport Kaolin in the 1950s and 1960s before moving into the real estate business. With Tommy Alexander, he jointly owned Alexander-Frost Realty, where he served for the rest of his career.
In 1958, Brant and Jan became charter members in the founding of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where Brant came to a saving faith and devoted relationship with the Lord. Throughout more than a half-century of faithful worship and fellowship among that community of believers, Brant served repeatedly in leadership capacities, including as Senior Warden and Every Member Canvass Chairman. He and Jan loved and grew in faith with the people and ministries of St. Francis and in later years developed a special commitment to that Church's Haitian Hope Mission.
Brant was an accomplished actor, starring in many significant roles throughout Middle, Ga., including multiple engagements as Norman Thayer in On Golden Pond, as Big Daddy Pollitt in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and as Mayor Shin in Music Man, among many, many others. The 'Big Daddy' name stuck and became the appellation of choice when his grandchildren and sons spoke of him. Brant loved story-telling, later in life becoming a prolific author of short stories based on real world experiences to which every man can relate. Brant enjoyed planning and preparing large meals and regularly put his culinary skills to work not only for family and friends but also in community outreach through 'Frost's Fabulous Feast' at Macon Little Theater and Rebuilding Together. He combined his gifts for hospitality and story-telling on numerous occasions, notably in hosting with Jan a large celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Brant gave sacrificially in many

ways, especially to his Church, to the Macon Little Theater where he served as a member of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees for many years, and to his community where he served as vice-chairman of the Bibb County Elections Board. But far and away his greatest commitment was to his beloved wife and family. Brant truly was at his best in his roles as a husband and father. He sincerely believed that any success or acclaim that he found in his other interests were dwarfed by the favor that the Lord allowed him as soul mate to Jan, and as a dad to his four sons. That same affection extended to grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, with whom he developed special bonds. Rare is the family that is as universally, broadly, and deeply grateful for, and devoted to, their Big Daddy. While his family will miss him terribly, they are grateful for a long life well-lived - and for an eternity assured by a steadfast faith. God was gracious to him even in death, taking him instantly.
Brant is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jan; four sons; four daughters-in-law; and 14 grandchildren, as follows: in Newnan, Ga., Brant IV and Krista Frost and their children, Brant V, Katie, Caroline, Lizzie, and Abbey; in Houston, Texas, Fred and Kem Frost and their sons, Thompson, Frederick, Stephen, and Jonathan; in Marietta, Ga. Ben and Molly Frost and their children, Claire and Benjamin; and in Kiev, Ukraine, Chris and Anna Frost and their sons, David, Adam, and Abel. Brant is also survived by his eldest sister and her husband, Dr. John and Holly Sonneland, of Spokane, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be at Snow's Memorial Chapel, 746 Cherry St., Macon, Ga., on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. The memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 432 Forest Hill Rd., Macon, with interment and a reception following at the same location. Visit www.snowsmacon.com to express tributes. Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.

It is such a wonderful thing to know a man of faith and the more wonderful to know his children have chosen to follow in the faith and lifestyle especially in this time of history. My wife, Juanita, and I are blessed to have shared some small amount of our time with Brant IV. This whole family must be one of our Lord's favorites. T.C. Cox -- Stockbridge, GA

Dear Mrs. Frost and Family, we were so very sorry to learn of the passing of your husband and dad. We have long been admirers of Big Daddy from afar as we've heard wonderful stories from Fred about growing up in your loving, active Christian home. Reading through the obituary was amazing – what a fine and exemplary life he lived. We wish that we'd had the honor of meeting him; hearing one of his tales; or seeing a performance. Brant and each of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Peace and God's Speed. Ned, Julie, Dylan, Blair and Banner Chapman (The Woodlands, Texas)

Janet, Brant, Ben, Fred and Chris, you are in my heart. I feel joy and sadness in the passing of Brant. Knowing he is with the lord is the joy and I share you sadness in my heart. His love was all of you. His spirit was the church and the Lord.

Be at peace my friends. Your dad is with Jesus and all of his glory.
