Eugene Martell Obituary

Eugene P. Martell, 78
     WESTBROOK -- Eugene P. Martell, 78, of Westbrook, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at his home.
     He was born in Westbrook on Feb. 18, 1929, the son of James and Agnes (LaBerge) Martell. Eugene served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Joan LaMontagne on Oct. 2, 1948. He worked for Cumming Brothers as a sales representative until 1967 following which he accepted a position with Jordan Foods and retired in 1991.
     Eugene was a past commander and life-time member of VFW Post 832 and was lovingly referred to as Uncle Sharpe by his nieces and nephews. Uncle Sharpie was famous for his pork pies and fish chowder and was a great guitar player and loved playing for his family.
     He was predeceased by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Martell and four children; daughter, Pamela (Martell) and her husband Wayne Fuller, son Darrell Martell and spouse Eleanor, daughter, Denise (Martell) and spouse Mark Graham and daughter, Dena (Martell) and her husband, Mike Caron. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
     A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Saint Anthony Purdue (formerly Saint Hyacinth) Church in Westbrook. Burial will follow at the Dow's Corner Cemetery in Standish. Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care, 471 Deering Ave., Portland.
